The near total collapse of the coup attempt against Donald Trump, and his seeming ability to take every arrow they shoot at him and remain triumphant, has dropped the whole illegal, even treasonous, plot from immediate attention. This is not a good thing; nor is it an accurate reading of events. The daily drumbeat of negative propaganda that forms the kultersmog shows that the resistance still thrives.
But we cannot let this story die. An organized plot against one of America’s signature traditions, the peaceful transfer of power, was the stuff of thrillers in the 60’s and 70’s. Today, it heralds the collapse of the quaint notion that our governing bodies, whatever their politics, stand united behind a mutual reverence for both our history and all our traditions.
The story is still being written. Whether it ultimately reads as the historical moment when Americans finally reversed the decades-long corruption of our nation and culture and took our country back, or the moment when history at last cemented for all time it’s grand march into a glorious future of blissful equality, will be determined in these times in which we live.
