Question

I would like to conduct a little poll.
The question is, do you think this coronavirus scare, it's being transmitted around the globe causing the current pandemic, and the shortages, most specifically of paper products like toilet paper, paper towels, and facial tissues is, for lack of a better word, organic?

All I am looking for are yes, or no answers, and I realize this generalizes things a bit much, I just want to get a general feel of what most folks tend to think, as best I can tell from posting here and on a couple of other social media websites.

Yes would mean you believe the virus mutated in nature due to some environmental cause or what ever makes viruses mutate naturally, then it was spread by people unaware they were infected with something so serious until it became this pandemic, and that the shortages are the result of people panic buying like hearing about the virus and potential quarantine in house so they bought 10, 20, 30 packages of toilet paper so the shelves across the United States in grocery stores, supplies stores, and all the various small stores were completely empty and have been for the past 3-4 weeks because so much was bought and hoarded then suppliers have simply not been able to keep up with the demand.

No means you think that rather calling this a "novelty coronavirus" it would be more accurate to call it something like a "genetically modified virus. This would mean scientist changed this virus intentionally in a lab, or perhaps calling it a "weaponized virus" might be an even more accurate name for it than a novelty virus. No would also mean you think that the scientists who modified, or weaponized this virus knowingly infected people, either agents of their own, or with help from other another nation or nations, then sent these people out to infect others to see how fast it would spread. No would also mean you may think these shortages are not from every day people panic purchasing, but something governments have orchestrated by some means to keep the average folks scared enough about this virus they will accept what ever measures the government insists is needed to stop massive deaths like what was recorded in history with the beaubonic plague, or smallpox with the indians.

YES but with reservations. From what I have always been told, historically, most flu viruses come out of China. I do find it suspicious that this virus, not being the nastiest, is treated so differently. Just routinely, flu causes anywhere from 12,000 to 50,000 deaths every year and you have heard nary a peep from the media or govenment. I get a flu shot every year and I have had a pneumonia shot also because I'm in one of the higher risk groups (old guy group.) We normally take precautions every cold and flu season and we have been flu free. Following good advice will afford much protection but I see relatively little extra benefit from wrecking the entire economy to achieve it.

Yes. Strains of the virus have been around for years, all caused by animal to human ingestion. What isn't organic is people using using the outbreak to their own ends, big or small, Politicians, whole governments, media, and yes, conspiracy theorists.

I believe this was done on purpose, it is political and it is a dry run for something in the future.

Yes, I think it's largely organic. A lot of the reaction has been unnecessarily political and "optics" focused instead of just trying to be pragmatic.

I remember very early on, a picture on FB of toilet paper with its origin " Made In China" magnified. I think people thought when China shut down, TP would be unavailable, many responses reflected such... Instant Panic! People assumed ALL TP was produced there and people jumped on to that band wagon. It's my guess anyway.

There is a biolab seven miles from the epicenter of Wuhan. They say it originated in the wet markets where live animals, that would never meet each other in the wild, are kept in close proximity. The doctor that raised awareness of this new(novelty)virus was shut down by Chinese authorities for spreading rumors.
The shortages you mention are the same in the U.K and other European countries.
