I think we’re starting to see something of this in recent stories about China and it’s handling of the virus. Here we find China sort of coming clean with an “Oh well, maybe we fudged the numbers a little...” approach. I doubt they bothered to alert their bought-and-paid for useful idiots in the US media that the narrative they’ve been pushing (US has more cases than China!!!) has changed, but that’s how it is with totalitarian regimes unconstrained by the need for honesty or consistency.
Another limited hangout would seem to be the slow seepage into the narrative that maybe... just maybe... this plague might not have sprung from some poor mope making bat soup. Maybe... just maybe... a teensy-weensy bit of the bug leaked out of our secure lab. That lab hasn’t really proven to be all that secure over the years—worrisome in itself given that all the plagues of the 21st century came from China.
What next? Who can say? We know these undisputed facts:
• Trump was making good on his promise to restructure our trade relationship with China.
• As of today, our economy is in a shambles.
• 1,000,000 deaths in this country would constitute a social, economic and cultural disaster. 10,000,000 Chinese dead, or more, would scarcely cause a blip on their radar screen. They have 1,400,000,000 people, fer crissake. And all of them are expendable.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.According to the CDC there were 2,046,549 deaths from all causes except suicide in the US in 2018, and not a whisper, so actually, a million deaths in the US does not constitute "...a social, economic and cultural disaster." But apparently 7,004 from COVID-19 does. Public panic changes everything, and I think the media has some responsibility for fanning those flames. The rest of us and our leadership are doing their best to deal with it. I'm not too sure about those throwing rocks at them while people die.
