Canada’s new Conservative Party leader stupidly waded into the Indian Residential School question this week and promptly shot himself in the foot. Tens of thousands of indigenous kids were forced to leave home and attend the schools, meant to assimilate them into the mainstream. They became hell holes of abuse.
Erin O’Toole tried to make the point that they did have some good intention, for example, education. You could also argue there were some well meaning people in the system, or that many of the Indian kids were being removed from communities rife with abuse, neglect, addiction and violence. But none of that thinking is allowed to be discussed. The schools, according to the Prime Minister and other leftists, represented “culture” genocide.
Although the government investigated, officially apologized, paid cash compensation to thousands of Indians, and formed a national reconciliation commission, the woke won’t let this issue go. “Reconciliation” recommendations have resulted in renaming landmarks, tearing down statues, and revising history; measures which only cause further division. And while there’s plenty of harping on reconciliation, I see no sign of what’s really needed - forgiveness.
O’Toole should have been advised to steer clear of this leftist trap. The simple answer he should have been advised to give: Canada has investigated, apologized and compensated victims of this chapter. What we need now isn’t talk, but forgiveness.
Every conservative fumble on this lose-lose issue is another boost for Trudeau and the woke agitators.

Having said, we all know that the Lisa The Flaming Leftit along with Rosebud Farton all live on Turd breath and will flog this to death. The veneer that covers them is like a thin prophylactic called fake money!
The Right can only win when this corrupt left biased pendulum is centered.
