Ten years ago, if you said that you thought all white people were racist, that biological males should be permitted to compete in female sports if they identified as women, or that disagreeing with either of the previous two thoughts constituted hate speech, you would've been thought of as an extremist.
Today, you're just an average Twitter user.

That is a much more worrying trend.
However...
You can also say that it is a good thing... 70 years ago buggery meant a prison sentence, and now we accept homosexuality.
Woman were not allowed to vote in most western countries and to suggest that you had to be an extremist. now you are an extremist to say otherwise.
So some old bad ideas are now extreme.
It is the new bad ideas that are now no longer considered extreme that worry me.
Jokes aside, that's really the point I was trying to make: what is extremism?
I mean, to continue my original thought above, today someone who is deeply religious would be seen by many as an extremist. But 100 years ago, that was the societal norm.
So if we want to take the article you posted at face value, what they are saying is that being counterculture, or going hard against societal norms, is associated with low cognitive ability. But do we really believe that?

The “study” I posted was really small and I think the reporting is as usual biased.
They don’t really post what the tests were or what they considered as extreme.
So you need to take all those things in account.
You would think to think outside the box and be counter culture require high cognitive ability as well as bravery.
I do think this is why we all despise “modern” feminists. You used to need both intelligence and bravery to be a feminist... today is is mainstream and any idiot can support it.
And yes, I did thought of posting this in the jokes section picking a bit more on religion.
I wish they disclosed the actual brain games tests, i.e., the actual problems and questions, that were given to the participants.
The article also prompted me to think of Aleph (Aum Shinrikyo), the Japanese cult that was behind the Tokyo sarin attack many years ago. The cult attracted many students and graduates from elite universities. They were young very intelligent people who were studying laws, engineering, etc. under tremendous pressure and had pressured careers ahead of them. The cult promised them a more meaningful life.
So, I'm thinking that it may be a little too quick to conclude that people with extreme views are not bright, as the study suggests... What do you think?

Of course young people are easily influenced and can become radicalised.
I think the tests were indicating a general trend... in the end it is all statistics and both bright and less bright people can become extremists, however I think they found that the less bright you are the easier it is to be an extremist.
