The beautiful thing about a faith based world view is that, by definition, it is outside the realm of logic and, therefore, utterly impervious to it. Faith, the belief in things for which there is no evidence, grows stronger under logical assault. The self-evident correctness of ones belief means you need never defend it. Nor can there be permitted such an apostasy as learning from mistakes, since the focus of ones faith is never wrong. There are no mistakes, only insufficient effort and weakness of commitment.

The religion of the left currently reigns as our most insidious and widespread faith-based endeavor. Given the unbroken track record of failure, despair, poverty and death that results every time the left is put in charge of something, one could be forgiven for mistaking their faith for some form of psychotic delusion, but that’s not how they see it. Their filters are warped, their language sounds like ours but it’s not, and the world they inhabit is an alien planet where facts are social constructs and reality is simply one narrative out of myriad possibilities; where history can be judged and modified to conform to standards invented mere weeks ago; where truth, ethics and morals are harnessed and manipulated in the service of the only thing that matters—Power: its unceasing accumulation, and the unrelenting effort to crush anyone or anything that stands in its way.

When Trump won the 2016 election, Steve Bannon met with the staff of the New York Times and told them, “You still have no idea why Donald Trump is president. You need to shut up, sit down, and listen.” Of course, that never happened. At the time, our willful blindness kept us from recognizing the truth about what we’d assumed was simply a political arena. We’d naively expected that in the wake of their devastating defeat, a period of self-reflection would follow as the Democrats re-examined their fundamental assumptions. But there are never lessons to be learned from failure because there are never mistakes. The only lesson they learned was, “Next time, we need to steal more votes.”

And so they did. And our current incompetent administration is the unhappy result. True to form, not only have they done nothing to make our lives better or easier, they have degraded every aspect of our national culture and our well-being, to say nothing of our national security. And it’s clear that incompetence alone can’t account for our breathtaking reversal of fortune. This is intentional, in strict accordance with their agenda for which they exhibit so much unwarranted faith.

Tuesday night, the first reviews came in, and they spelled out clear rejection of the left’s entire program. But again, if you were expecting a look inward resulting in a needed change of direction, you’d be disappointed. Bill Clinton had the good sense to do it. He was shellacked in his first midterm elections, and without missing a beat, not only did he adopt Newt Gingrich’s program, he took credit for it.

This ain’t Bill Clinton’s party. The knee-jerk reflexes were immediate: Democrats lost at the polls because America has proven to be even more racist than our woke betters ever imagined. Obviously they can no longer rely on a broken political structure that permits racists to prevail to this degree. Time to get serious. Ram the whole damn program down our throats, starting with vaccine mandates. After that, it’s whatever they can slip past the traitor Joe Manchin, who eventually will have to be dealt with. After that, anything goes. We Deplorables had our chance to make the right choice, and we blew it, so now they’ll make the choice for us, whether we like it or not.

Ah, the joy of unintended consequences. In their fanatical zeal to get rid of Trump, and the ridiculous overreach with which they’ve attempted to cement for all time their position of power, they’ve instead done nothing to remove Trump from the national scene, but they’ve also created a Trump franchise, with outlets all across the spectrum, proving that you don’t need Trump. You just need people who aren’t afraid of a fight, who love this country, believe in its founding principals, reject the totalitarianism of the left, and are willing to actually represent the interests of the people who vote for them. That’s how elections are won, not doubling down on a bankrupt ideology and the despised agenda it spawned. But, to paraphrase Barak Obama, never underestimate the left’s ability to fuck things up.
