Suppose guns don't kill people but rather that only people kill people.
Let x and y be two combatants and z be a bystander.
When x targets y with a death punch, y dies and z remains living.
When x targets y with a gun, however, y dies and also z dies some of the time by a stray bullet.
Because x did not target z, and because z would not have died without the introduction of the gun, the original assumption, which implied that guns never kill people, is proven wrong by contradiction, and therefore guns do kill people
Note: this is not to say that guns always kill people, only that it can be proven by example that guns sometimes kill people. It is also worth noting that many other circumstances can kill people besides guns and other people.

Therefore Alec Baldwin is innocent and the gun should be sent to the gallows, gas chamber, electric chair, whatever until it is no more - especially if intent can be proven.

There's a 1942 Moison-Nagant bolt action rifle in my closet. I bought it because of its historical significance. It was built for WWII and finally emptied out of old Soviet arsenals in the 2000s. My son-in-law has a Springfield Civil War musket from his ancestors in the Civil War.
In all their long histories, neither of these weapons has hurt anyone without a human deliberately using it for that purpose. Humans make the decision.
As for safety for bystanders, I could make the same argument about chainsaws.

Is that why authoritarian governments use heavily armed state police with militarized weapons to keep their order? You do realize both the Soviet Union and current day CCP banned guns from their citizens? You do realize Australia removed firearms from their citizens 15 years ago and they are now a full medical tyranny?

Doesn't sound very reliable! Makes me think maybe producing less guns would save lives!
I mean it's a choice to use a gun, but a bad choice, a bit removed from the act of shooting, and a bad choice to make them in the first place!
Guns: really not suited for their intended purpose! Punches: much better.

Well, I got stabbed for a mobile phone… two of them with knives.
I do not say that I wanted a gun… it might have made things worse… but bad people do bad things.
I also know dozens of firearm owners who never shot anyone.
Guns kills just as much as knives and cars - not at all.
People misusing those things do.
