Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I am 68 years old - I was born into a Catholic family and I attended Catholic school 1st grade through 8th grade. Yes it is true the Catholic church teaches religion via the Catechism rather than the Bible itself. Although we were NOT unfamiliar with the content and context of the Holy Bible to which we often were referred via Catechism teachings.
Besides it is true that "the holy bible" as we have known it for the last 500 years or so (or whenever it was that the printing press came into being) is NOT the complete and total sum of the teachings of the Christ nor are they a complete and accurate record of the history of the tribes of Israel etc
Being that less than 1 percent of the global population were literate it seemed a wise decision for the Priests (teachers and guides) to go into the throngs of the great unbaptized using a system of teaching materials known today as the Catechism. Furthermore The Catholic Church decided (for better of for worse) to teach the faith in a "Universal" language (Latin) rather than to try printing materials in all the different languages of the world. The use of Latin is NOT for making the Priests appear to be more learned or "better" - quite the opposite. Latin was implemented as a method of streamlining - making the teachings universally available to ALL People all over the globe.
It is necessary to point out to you that you are conflating "Iconography" with "Idolatry" . There is a profound difference here and you are intentionally ignoring it.
The Catholics do NOT pray or meditate to the statues of Mary or the Crosses around our necks or the Rosary nor the Crucifix. We were taught that those things are merely ICONS - Icons are NOT Idols. Icons are fine pieces of sculpture and paintings. NO SANE person believes the statue of Mary is a real and animate Mother of God - it is an ICON. It is REPRESENTATIVE of Mary and it helps one who prays and meditates to focus their mind on just that - the Mother of Christ our Savior. Any SANE person knows that the Icon is NOT the holy, spiritual, ethereal being to which they seek to commune with in heart and mind. THIS is the whole purpose of Prayer and Meditation in the first place. As for the rosary, it is just silly for you to say that the rosary is an "idol"...it is a string of counting beads - it is a way for one in prayer to repeat their prayers or their "mantras" in order and in a determinately correct number of repetitions.
You sir have done some very good and remarkable in depth research on your thesis here but you deliberately avoided defining the difference between Idolatry and Iconography.

I have no wish to denigrate your beliefs or those of millions of devout Catholics worldwide. You are obviously sincere, and I respect that. Unfortunately, the actions and teachings of the leadership of the “Universal” Church from the distant past to present day, are antithetical to the Word of God.
It is interesting that your second paragraph appears to be an attack on the veracity of the Bible itself: it is written, “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost”. 2Peter 1:21
Whatever you mean by “not the complete and total sum of the teachings of Christ...” The Bible is clear that God does not change: “For I am the LORD, I change not”. Malachi 3:6
Therefore, any parts that you feel have been left out? Are not going to contradict that which God has already revealed in His Word.
On the Day of Pentecost the gospel was given to the people in many different tongues. It is naive to think that the Catholic leadership was thinking of the “good” of the world’s population when they forbade the possession of a Bible in ANY language during the Dark Ages, under penalty of excommunication or death by fire.
“Canon 14. We prohibit also that the laity should not be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.”
– The Church Council of Toulouse 1229 AD
It seems much more in keeping with the arrogant Papal spirit that the leadership was afraid that if her subjects owned and read Bibles, they might question some of the Church’s actions and teachings. Hence, all knowledge of the Word of God was disseminated to followers through the controlled Catholic filter of the “enlightened” Priestly Class.
If Catholics do not pray to or worship statues, why is the foot of the statue of the pagan god Jupiter (repurposed by the Church as the Statue of St Peter) in St Peters Cathedral worn away by the kisses of countless Catholic worshippers? (See picture below)
Why do Catholics bow before statues when this is expressly forbidden by God?
“Exodus 20:5, "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them”.
Why does the Ten Commandments catechism taught by the Catholic Church remove the Third Commandment prohibiting idol worship? Obviously, because the Third Commandment prohibits the “veneration” of “icons”. Why else would this Commandment be removed?
The Catholic Council of Trent declared that: “It is lawful to have images in the Church and to give honour and worship to them ... Images are put in Churches that they may be worshipped.”
It is also interesting that Mary is worshipped: “Hail Mary...”, but that is another conversation, altogether.
Your final point that the rosary is simply a method of counting the “correct number of repetitions” of a prayer, brings to mind the words of Christ: “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Matthew 6:7
