Epstein as Evidence of Emerging Neo-Feudalism

The more I learn about Jeffrey Epstein's connections, the more it seems to be just the latest evidence of an aristocracy attempting to reassert itself.

The number one thing we can do to check their power is to raise taxes on the very wealthy.

Any right-wingers ready to see the light?

Jeffrey Epstein is lower than pond scum by almost any rationale. That said, "raising taxes on the wealthy" is just too simplistic a "fix" for a complicated problem. Rather than jumping to "redistributing the wealth" as the first (and only ever) plan of action-- why don't we instead work to fix the schools, get rid of all of the liberal-bias bullshit, and just start working to help everybody have a better understanding of wealth, what it is, where it comes from, how you get it, what to do with it after you get some, etc. Then work to help people learn how to think critically and to think about long-term solutions to systemic issues. Help people entrepreneur their way out of poverty and hard times. And give them some real honest and earnest public support. Sure some of them are going to fail, but a lot more of them are going to succeed. And if we start a program of gooming young people to think creatively and accept challenges instead of throwing pipe bombs and crying about "Muh Racism" we might build a society that is better grounded in the things that really matter-- like honor, hard work, community, raising families, education instead of getting bogged down by the ephemeral fickle things that twitter by without value.

LOL! what the....it really is hard to take you seriously Ricky - c'mon. get real. So just how is raising taxes on the super wealthy supposed to mitigate such scandalous depravity? Furthermore, what in hades does on have to do with the other.

iThink Level 9 July 29, 2019

Wealth is power, particularly extreme wealth.

@WilyRickWiles so your solution is to hand all wealth over to the clowns in government?

@iThink The solution is removing it from the extremely wealthy. The government can already print as much money as it needs.

@WilyRickWiles are you serious?

@iThink Of course it has the added benefit of giving legitimacy to our monetary system. And should be coupled with programs that create opportunity for the working class. But the taxing (and the power over our political system and culture that it removes) does a lot of the work in and of itself.

@WilyRickWiles so after you take everything away from the super rich and find out that isn't close to being enough money to solve the debt crisis (much less pay for all of the free stuff you want) you go after the wealth of the upper class - not enough so you go after the upper middle class -not enough so you go after all business and industry and abracadabra you find you are living in the United States of Venezuela. LOL!! Brilliant!

@iThink Yeah, there's not a debt crisis. There is an inequality crisis. And we are fighting to avoid deflation and low growth.

@WilyRickWiles ok I feel much better now

You can call it tribalism I suppose, but I call it influence peddling and corruption. You don’t fight that by taxing the rich or busting up monopolies. I’m not sure what monopoly Epstein owns anyway. No, you fight this by cracking down on corrupt officials who let the Epsteins of this world skate.

@Don_Provolone, I see two separate problems here. Epstein bonding with the likes of Clinton and other wealthy sexual predators is one, with the result that he escapes justice as a “protected one.” Government support for favored industries (and punishment of disfavored industries) is the second. Before we resort to trust busting, how ‘bout we take away some (or better, all) the government benefits that have been bestowed on the likes of giggle and farcebook and others?

This is not likely a return to a neo feudalism. It is the result of human instinct towards tribalism. Democracy and capitalism are not natural to humans. Still the combination of the two in the last 300 years has raised more people from poverty, extended the lifespan and provided more advances than all the millinias of human civilization. Both systems are cyclical. About 130 years ago in the USA we had the robber barons. Railroads, steel, coal, oil, shipping. Carnegie, Getty, Morgan, Vanderbuilt, Rockefeller and others. Today we have Bezos, Zuckerberg, Gates, Musk and others. Those in this tier and the concentric economic tiers that service and interact together we're then and are now an elite. The elite are a tribe. They see themselves as most special and the instinct is to favor the kin and the friend. Teddy Rooservelt knew this tribe as he was from it. But his interactions in the west and in the Spanish American War caused him to experience life amongst the most common while accomplishing uncommon feats of bravery, valor and self sacrifice. In this he trust busted the fat elites. It is what is needed today. Not taxes which is more power and capital to a bloated government. But the break up of the monopoly clubs. More opportunity and capital to more PEOPLE. This makes for innovations, competitions, market expansion and growth. Raise taxes you do the opposite...Do you see the light yet!

Let's do both. Sometimes the trust you have to bust is an individual, especially when their business involves black markets like smuggling and financing CIA black ops. Increased taxes don't make the government that much more powerful--it is already a monetary sovereign.

@WilyRickWiles nope the idea is to keep more capital in the economy. Break up the tech monopolies and let the market flush with capital do its job. Create more millionaires and billionaires not less. Government is only good for croney capitalism which an extension of the elite's natural instincts to favor the kin and friends. The revolving door of bureaucrats that doll out sweet contracts then leave government and take sweetheart positions is the real political and economic cancer in America. Very closed. Little opportunity. Supports elitism. You need to learn more about economics and history.

@10thGeneration LOL. Of course you blame the upper middle class and not those with extreme wealth. And you accuse ME of needing to learn about economics and history. It is people like you who enable the Epsteins of the world.

@WilyRickWiles nope it is people like me that employ people in 14 states, pay taxes in each and try to teach and inform as I suffer fools patiently!
