I don't know if any one really believed that here in America anyway. There were plenty of empty libraries all over the country for decades. It is just a fact that a majority of people just don't desire to understand things which are difficult to understand. Leftists claim Republicans are stupid Republicans claim Democrats are stupid but the reality most of us are pretty dim-witted

@JimbobNE Hollywood contributes to the stupidity... when society started learning things from television they stopped reading ... then television and movies became the escape from reality.
What I find interesting is that I know smart people on both sides of the political fence and it is amazing that both sides hold strong to their beliefs no matter what is said or done.
@MommaDaggs I agree, while holding strongly to one's beliefs is usually a good thing, when you do it despite a huge amount of evidence against your beliefs it becomes hard to believe.
@MommaDaggs true, but it is just people doing what they believe is best for them. Getting cheap laughs from a bad movie is much easier than spending a few days with a difficult book. People generally want easy.
@JimbobNE agree people want it easy these days... I wonder if they are looking for easy because life in general is more complex... it feels like so many people are looking to escape the reality of their worlds. And with technology the world is moving so much faster...
