most technology that we think of as new is relay old but was not implemented until until the market was forced to change 1980's hybrid.

If the companies were mandated to keep up the innovation of cars like this who knows how far we could have come by now. A few manufactures in the 80's said they were manufacturing their "last" V-8's ...we see how long that lasted. lol Old addictions die hard.

What most people don't know is that a v6 will generate more torque and horsepower than equal size v8' the same goes for the 3 to 4 cylinder the three cylinder will do much better than the fours.
Most people I know are unaware that the internal combustion engine is still the most efficient, least carbon producing and highest fuel economy production vehicle on the road today. I'm driving it. It is a single point fuel injected gasoline vehicle with three cylinders that is an updated version of the Geo Metro XFI. It gets 60-65 miles per gallon driving normally. Yes driving normally. Not accelerating from zero to 60 in two days. Normally. If you're driving an electric car (30-40 average mpg when you consider the fuel burned at the power station, and inefficiencies in between, and you must recharge in 100 miles) or a hybrid (40-50 average mpg for the best of them), they are all pushing more carbon into the air than my car. I'm a mechanical engineer, in case you're wondering if I really know. And no, the Sterling engine has never seen production. Nor will it for technical reasons.

Posted this to point out that the supposed new technology is nothing new. In 1945 tara plane was getting 45 MPG and had a top speed of over 80. yes advancements are suppressed to keep profits high and eliminate competition. I know there is other options for transportation like the stirling engine that has been successfully use in autos but was to efficient so the project was scrapped. the 1925 Doble E-20 Steam Car used a flash type tube boil and could outperform most cars of the day this to was run out of business because it was to efficient. most cars in europe get over 50 MPG because the people won't buy them unless they do. I have friends that use Geo's VW Rabbits and the older Dodge Omni and have made many high mileage cars that get over 60 MPG, keep up the good work.
@KeVince We disagree about the reason steam and Stirling engines are not produced. It isn't that they are too efficient. They are too complex and expensive to produce - even more expensive than hybrids. One reason hybrids exist is because they have been artificially supported as a technology. Not by a conspiracy. By consumers who want to feel superior and virtuous for saving the planet. The political current of "Climate Change" as swept along many unproven technologies that people all of a sudden are convinced are viable - or should be, without any significant advance in 50 years. Like batteries and photovoltaics. Many of these people feel that just because "virtuous" people demand advances in those technologies, they will automatically happen - as if all of the advances that entrepreneurs like Edison developed could have happened in the Dark Ages if only the "virtuous" demanded it.
