Hello. There are some conspiracy theories thrown around against Jews, no? Like Jews are taking over the world by secretly controlling governments or something like that? And some people seem to firmly believe those conspiracy theories. Still, it's odd that it's almost always black people who are attacking Orthodox Jews, and that the media don't seem to be interested in reporting violence against them... In Switzerland, they have a very distinctive political system; several leaders share the leadership in governing the country and they have up to 4 referendums a year over various policies. This is called direct democracy. This way, the voters are kept better-informed and have to take more responsibilities for their actions in decision-making at the same time, i.e. they are directly involved in politics. Interesting, no? Would you say this is a better form of democracy? Would the Swiss model work in your countries? This video explains it much better than me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5W45Va0cPE

Are you in favour of ethnonationalism (ethnic-nationalism)?
Naomi comments on Dec 20, 2019:
According to Michael Ignatieff, a Canadian researcher, nationalism can take one of two forms, each defined by different kinds of belonging. On one hand, you've got "civic nationalism", in which national identity is defined by shared civic and political values (all citizens are part of the nation). On the other, you've got "ethnic nationalism", where belonging is defined by ethnic identity, language, religion, and similar traits. It's a form of nationalism with some strong opinions about who does, and does not, belong. Ethnonationalism sounds exclusive to me. https://study.com/academy/lesson/ethnic-nationalism-definition-theory-examples.html Recently, the Indian government passed a controversial citizenship law that is seen as discriminatory against Muslims. Indian lawmakers have approved legislation granting citizenship to migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, provided that they are Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Parsis and Sikhs – but not if they are Muslim. This approach may not be ethnonationalist in a precise sense, but similar in that the state can determine who does and does not belong to the nation depending on their ethnicity. India is currently run by the Hindu nationalist-led government of the prime minister, Narendra Modi, or the "Hindutva" government, which adheres to an ideology seeking to establish the hegemony of Hindus and the Hindu way of life. Those who support Hindutva are fundamentalists (according to my Indian friends). Does that mean any ethnonationalist state could order the persecution of certain groups of "outsiders"? The removal of them. Could that lead to ethnic cleansing...?

I kind of understand that when Greta speaks with anger, you may see a picture of yourself arguing with your own teen.😂 I also share the view that Greta has been used by adults; by politicians, by organisations including the UN, and even by her own parents. So, I have another question! Many people were annoyed to see Greta being invited by the UN to deliver her speech. Many shared the view that the UN treated her like the Messiah. Then, surely, the UN should be the target of derogatory remarks, yet it's always Greta who is subject to bashing. Why is that then? I really could do with a psychologist or anthropologist. 😂
There have been many many derogatory memes thrown around and many many contemptuous comments posted ...
Naomi comments on Dec 18, 2019:
I must be honest with myself. I do feel frustrated with the whole Greta thing in that so far, no other teens in the opposite stance have challenged Greta. I know there is a German girl who holds the opposite view to Greta. I saw her on YouTube. It would be great if the girls were given a chance to debate each other. Young people do need to talk about climate change among themselves. I'm not here to take sides. I'm not left or right, or up or down for that matter. I'm simply wondering about the "phenomenon" that it is LARGELY middle-aged men who get annoyed about Greta, and not only being annoyed about her, they have the urge to share derogatory memes and contemptuous comments on social media. Do you think middle-aged men (possibly on the left) would react the same way if a 16-year-old republican (right) acted like Greta in the opposite stance?

'Your right is someone's responsibility.
Naomi comments on Dec 8, 2019:
I should think that maintaining good health essentially comes under individual responsibilities. One should take care of one's health by eating well, exercising well, etc. Because I'm entitled to health, it shouldn't mean that I can damage my health and expect someone to fix it for me. Health is a human right, i.e., a legal entitlement, and it means that the state is obliged to protect it. When my right is someone's responsibility, that also means someone's right is my responsibility. It then means that everyone's responsible for everyone else's health, in other words, it is the responsibility of the entire society, i.e., collective responsibility. I understand that health is part of the right to live, which is also a human right. Some people were born with ill health, e.g., chronic diseases, disabilities, etc. In that case, they were already deprived of the right to live at the very beginning of their lives. It seems wrong if they have to find money by themselves for the medical treatment they need. I should think that they're entitled to ask the society for help. Because the state is obliged to protect the right to health, does that mean the state should also be obliged to provide all the medical treatment everyone needs? For example, having a baby (without any complication, that is) or cosmetic surgeries may not be covered by a national healthcare system; they may not be considered as illnesses. I also think it is OK that people are given the choice to access private healthcare services if they can afford and if they continue to pay tax to support the NHS. In the case where only private healthcare services are available, then, perhaps the state should monitor and regulate them to ensure that the standard of healthcare is kept high and that all prices are kept low so that everybody can afford the medical care they need. That is my train of thought, so far... It's complicated!

Naomi comments on Dec 6, 2019:
Thank you everyone for your valid and valuable views and comments. I don't necessarily support banning any kind of free speech, but I'm happy to admit that I am not a free speech absolutist. In my opinion, the decision of whether of not banning someone from speech is basically made from the viewpoint and interpretation of the recipient of that speech, whereas the decision of whether or not the right to speak freely is abused relies on the intention of the speaker. This is not limited to free speech; people use their rights/entitlements/privileges for wrong reasons, intentionally, and that is to me a violation. We have speakers corners in Britain which are public spaces where people speak freely their views no matter how ridiculous they may be (e.g., flat earth theory) and they are challenged by listeners, but no debates lead to any violence because they progress in a civil manner. I think this is a good example of free speech being exercised by law-abiding people. We basically know how to behave, by common sense probably, yet, we love romanticising freedom of speech and fantasising free speech absolutism. It is a strange phenomenon to me.

The quotation is part of a longer 1984 sermon in a larger series titled "God’s Way to Health, Wealth and Wisdom" (CDA107); it also appears in Dr. Rogers' 1996 work "Ten Secrets for a Successful Family" stating that "by and large our young people do not know either the importance or the value of honest labor". Rogers did not originate the quote and did not claim to have originated it. Instead, he was citing almost verbatim a bit of anti-Soviet propaganda that had circulated in many magazines in the early 1960's. The quote appeared before that in the Congressional Record of 1958, where they were appended to the record by congressman Bruce Alger. Alger had borrowed the words from Gerald L. K. Smith, who had written them first in his magazine, The Cross and the Flag. Since the quote was attributed to Rogers in 2009, it has been regularly attributed to him; however, Rogers was essentially quoting Smith at the time.* - *LibertyTree* Still good, though.
