Hello, "Do any leftists oppose eating people to avert climate change?" I don't know, but they might support restriction on the number of children they can have per household. By the way, does the question imply that all leftists are referred to as climate change activists/extremists/ideologues? I thought they were separate things. Maybe I'm being pedantic.

Naomi comments on Oct 4, 2019:
I initially thought it was wonderful to see this lady director doing well despite her disabilities until someone mentioned the description of duties and responsibilities of film/TV directors, which include sound direction, i.e., directing actors' vocalisations, sound effects, choosing music for different scenes, etc., etc., and if a director is hard of hearing and therefore has no choice but to transfer the sound direction responsibilities to someone else (not to mention being unable to give a final decision/confirmation), it has to be said the job half done and has to be reflected in the reward/pay given to that director. (I know it sounds harsh, especially after I encountered the lady who is a lovely person, but I'm trying not to be subjective here.) With this pointed out, words like abilities, skills, qualifications, experience, age, performance, achievement, etc., started flying around in my head (lol), and I started wondering about fairness as to how to balance those factors (quality) with rewards (quantity).

It is hard to decide whether she is part or the victim of the fallacy. People have been making many assumptions about the girl. Incidentally, the vlogger in this video is apparently perceived as a far-right white nationalist by the left. Well, they would say that wouldn't they? :P I'll take that with a pinch of salt. As far as this video is concerned, the vlogger seems to have done his homework well, and the video seems factual.

Hello. This is absurdity. I would like to believe that their passion and belief in environmental conservation is genuine, which should be channeled into education. For example - Don't pick up placards and go out on the street. Instead, learn more about green energy, become qualified as scientists and engineers, get involved in improving green energy technologies, make green energy more reliable and more economically feasible so that it can replace coal fired energy eventually. They should know that green energy is currently very expensive and very unreliable - just imagine that there is a prolonged power outage while a child is undergoing a heart operation... the child could die... Children, who I would like to think mean well, need to recognise the importance of being pragmatic and not too idealistic.
I've got the answer! How to solve the plastic packaging paradox - BBC News
Naomi comments on Sep 26, 2019:
I was delighted when biodegradable bags became available at local stores. But, later, it was found that when those bags ended in the sea, they wouldn't break down quickly. Then, last year, in the UK, the Co-op introduced "compostable" carrier bags. It sounds great! These bags are currently available only at selected co-op stores; I haven't seen one in my town yet. I'm hoping that they will spread quickly, and that the same composition could be applied to different packaging materials in the near future. https://www.coop.co.uk/environment/carrier-bags

I've got the answer! How to solve the plastic packaging paradox - BBC News
Naomi comments on Sep 26, 2019:
"Some packaging is a foolish waste. *But are shrink-wrapped cucumbers really so silly if it means they stay fresh for 14 days rather than three? Which is worse 1.5g (0.05oz) of plastic wrap or entire cucumbers going off before being eaten? Suddenly it's not so obvious.* *Plastic bags stop bananas going brown so quickly, or new potatoes going green; they catch grapes that fall off bunches."* This is a powerful argument to me. We import fruit and vegetables from not-so-rich countries. Without packaging, so many of them rot before they reach our stores. That's a huge loss for growers, pickers, packers, transporters, etc., ultimately causing huge damage to the economies of the countries. So, in my opinion, it would be much better to focus on the improvement of packaging technology, including recyclable compositions for packaging materials, than focusing on the elimination of plastics.

And this is my reply to iThink's comment (i.e., the original post) on GeeMac's page: *"Hello iThink. "The right thing to do with Greta would be to gently pat her on the head..." That's patronising! Lol Do you remember when you were child, how frustrating it was to have your ideas, thoughts or feelings brushed off by your teachers, parents or any grownups? Get told not to be silly - conversation over? I do. Grownups forget that once they were children themselves. Children have their own thoughts and their own feelings; no matter how childish, naive, immature, etc., they are still thoughts and they are still feelings. Children need to be listened to and made aware that there are some things that they haven't thought through (like "sell your car or you are going to die in the next 12 years" which doesn't make sense, right?) so that they will be wiser. Listen to them and guide them by all means, but don't just dismiss their views. That would be my approach if I had young children. Unfortunately, Greta is wrapped up in her passion and beliefs so much that she fails to understand how her actions are impacting on young minds. No one with a sane mind would tell children that they are going to die in a matter of years. There are so many children and young people already suffering depression. Why tell them such a thing? It's cruel. Someone has to talk to her face-to-face and unpick her thoughts. That would be the right thing to do for her IMO."* I would add that I am aware that Greta herself has a disposition to depression, not to mention she has Asperger's syndrome. Exploitation of people with mental health problems is truly a rotten thing to do. She has been used as a moral shield to silence others. It is so unhealthy that she mingle with politically-motivated adults. Instead, she should be mingling and discussing climate change with others at her own age. After all, climate change needs to be debated among young people. I fear that she will eventually be burnt out and have a breakdown, and there will be another Greta. I fear that there is manufacturing of Greta going on. I so wish someone or something could stop the entire thing.

To back up the original post, here is my comment in full: *"Hello. Greta is 16. I expect any 16-year-olds to be able to take responsibilities for and accept the consequences of their own actions. For that reason, I don't see her as a complete victim of post-modernism. I believe that her passion and beliefs are genuine, but I would assume that there are some things in her head which she has not thought through. It is not healthy, in my opinion, that she is given a microphone and make emotional speeches without being challenged. It does not lead to a discourse. She is entitled to her opinions and she is entitled to free speech, so are other teens who disagree with her. She and opposing teens should be given opportunities to debate on climate change. After all, climate change needs to be discussed among young people (I'm a skeptic, but not a denier). Greta should be listened to (what she really thinks, not the rhetoric she learned to speak) but not necessarily to be agreed with all the time. The UK law defines and protects freedom of speech (expression) as follows: Human Rights Act 1998, Article 10 (up to date) Freedom of expression 1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This Article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises. 2. The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary. Meanwhile, it seems that free speech "absolutism" is something else; under free speech absolutism, anything goes, not to mention hateful, inflammatory speech. There should be minimal to no limitations to free speech, regardless of context, i.e., this does not only apply to government interference, as the above legal definition of free speech indicates, but also extends to private companies and even to individuals. If hateful, inflammatory speech is still protected within the right of free speech according to free speech absolutism, I would have to ask if it is justifiable to infringe on others' rights to stay safe and peaceful by practising the free speech absolutist right... I cannot say I am a free speech absolutist...

Venue cites religious freedom in denying mixed race wedding--is that their right?
Naomi comments on Sep 4, 2019:
Hello. that's a very good question. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right which is protected by law. So, if the religion one believes in says no mixed-race marriage, then one must comply with that (but it would seem unfair to accuse this person of being racist...). The Christian woman in the video says no mixed-race wedding, but I've checked with Boardwine that the Bible doesn't forbid mixed-race marriage. So, it's got to be the woman's personal preference, and has nothing to do with religious freedom as a legally-protected right, in which case, she is racist... no?

Do you think greed is actually good for economy?
Naomi comments on Aug 26, 2019:
As always, thank you very much for your contributions. Your points are all valid and valuable. When I made the original post, I was thinking of Black Friday. It was introduced in the UK from America and it has quickly been extended to "Black Friday Week". People criticise retailers for being greedy, but Black Friday also highlights consumers' greed. The way they rush into stores as soon as the doors open (some even camp overnight outside the stores!) and fight over products they don't really want is absurd. I also observe that there seems to a peculiar relationship between corporations and consumers in which they rely on each other's greed. Black Friday (or Black Friday Week) is surely one of the best times for retailers to make a lot of money while consumers are attracted to bargains and are prepared to spend a lot of money. So, in relation to the balance between greed and morality in the economic cycle, do you think Black Friday is here to stay or it should be stopped?

I don't know how to respond to this. I'm flabbergasted.

Why isn't anyone talking about Abraham (Ibrahim) and Islam?
Naomi comments on Aug 24, 2019:
Thank you everyone soooooo much for your inputs! The way the conversation developed here is mind-blowing! And your passion and extensive knowledge on the subject is amazing! I also thank you for putting up with my ignorance and inquisitiveness, but I'm glad that I posted my original question, which originally popped in my head when a friend in India said that people of all religions, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, used live happily together. (I also encountered a few "peaceful Muslims in the past.) Indian society is divided nowadays according to her, and as you know, hyper-partisanship doesn't help. Anyway, I shall dwell on the subject more. Thanks again! X

Criticism of Islam and the Qur'an seems endless especially with reference to Hadiths the words of Muhammad. Even those who have never read the Qur'an know that Muhammad was a horrible man and his words incite violence through the Qur'an. As I encountered a few "peaceful" Muslims in my life, I began to "try" to look at a peaceful side of Islam (I know I sound naive and I probably am). For example, you can find a piece like the below online which emphasises that the Qur'an shows a great deal of respect for the Bible, especially the teachings of Jesus. It's quite a bit to read but I hope you're interested enough to read it and that you could tell me if this is a credible claim or simply a fallacy. I don't have enough knowledge to form my own opinion yet, so I shall remain neutral. https://www.muslimhope.com/QuranSaysAboutTheBible.htm

Tommy’s Letter, 24th demos & an update from me FreeTommy - YouTube
Naomi comments on Aug 23, 2019:
Hello. To back up the video you kindly posted, here is Tommy's letter: "My name is Tommy Robinson, and I am 2 inches taller than Avi Yemini. Hello people, a quick letter to explain my thinking on cancelling the demo planned for the 24th as I know some people won’t be happy. But before I get started on that Ill give a quick update, I got a DAB radio a few days ago, I’m so fucking happy. MELLOW MAGIC is back, the days will now fly, I have 3 1/2 weeks left and I’ll be singing along to mellow magic, all I'm missing is Kev Carroll to sing along with. I sat and thought the other day as I was missing my kids that I was offered twice the opportunity to plead guilty and escape aprisonsentence, if I could turn back time I’d do exactly the same again, NOT GUILTY. I believe the establishment imprisoning me again tells the public more about them than it does about me, yeah, it’s shit in here, I hate it I should be with my family but people can now see the way our judiciary is used to silence people, to anyone with half a brain this sentence is a total abuse of their power, the public wants the government to get tough on criminals, murders, rapists, terrorists etc not to imprison journalists for reporting, civil offence = solitary in Belmarsh Ha Ha, speaks for itself. I’ve included in here my receipts for canteen so you can see what I spend my weekly money on, pork scratchings ha ha. Thank you to all those who have wrote to me and sent me books, my cell has more books in it than the prison library. I’m now receiving all the snail mail it’s unreal the support I have, I’ll be honest, reading your letters make such a difference, I laugh out loud, I get angry, I cry, I love reading the difference my story has had on you, I love reading what moment was your awakening. I love reading about your struggles and the courage you personally show, I’ve had some absolutely beautiful letters, I’ve had 1000’s of cards from all over the world, I sit and read from 11 – 4 each day. One lady who has wrote to me, she said a prayer for me in her church, they have kicked her out and banned her from the church because of it. I’m outraged, she has sent me the email correspondence from the church over it. I’m also upset as I can see by her emails that the church was an important part of her life. I generally believe that many of our churches are used by people for their politics, I doubt many in charge even believe in Jesus, but use the church to push their own political agenda. I hope that church leader is ready for Tommy Robinson and his camera being released from prison soon. I’m also reading more clearly how far our message has gone and the fact it’s reaching all classes, the amount of support letters I’ve received from classical ...

Naomi comments on Aug 22, 2019:
I find the following piece of information - Interesting. Does this sound credible to you? By Jonas Balle Petersen, Administration at Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs, Kuwait (2012-present) Islam, as a religion, was established by the Quran as a completion of the religions which came before it; the two main ones being Judaism and Christianity. So in the strict sense of Islam as the final religion then it was not called Islam before the Quran. However, Islam is an Arabic word and to surrender is istislam and this is what is implied by Islam i.e. to submit or to surrender your will to God. Likewise, Muslim means a person who has submitted to God. Thus the people who submit their will to God are all muslim whether before or after the Quran was revealed. The three main religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, all share this concept of Islam i.e. submission to God. And they all agree on the same prophet, Abraham. That is why they are called Abrahamic or monotheistic religions as opposed to polytheistic. So the Jews and Christians were Muslims before the Quran. The difference appeared when people started to invent new ways of worship contrary to the monotheistic teachings of the prophets. The Jews who were originally muslim rejected Jesus. The Jews and Christians rejected Prophet Muhammed. The Muslims with the revelation of the Quran believed in all of His many prophets, some which are the most famous: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Joseph, Jesus, and Muhammad. (may Allah’s peace and blessing be upon them all).

Naomi comments on Aug 20, 2019:
Hello. The phrase "prevention is better than cure" popped in my head while watching the video. It's the basic idea of "policing", no? Based on that, it's much better to prevent a crime rather than letting it happen and then trying to catch the one who committed it (i.e., the crime has already been committed and damage has been done - it's all too late to fix it). But then, it's tricky how to measure behavioural intentions of individuals, I think, as to whether one's utterance or action is with the intention of actually committing a crime or not... I'll have to think more about it. Thanks for sharing the video.

Naomi comments on Aug 19, 2019:
As always, thank you everyone for contributing your thoughts. You often make me aware of views I haven't thought about. This site is a good learning platform for me. While I'm all for supporting local economy and therefore I make a conscious effort to use small shops like a family-run bakery, if I'm a little tight with money, I choose to get a loaf of bread from a supermarket where it is cheaper - that's reality. And if I'm honest, if I can get something cheaper from a big retailer without compromising on quality, I will probably do so - that's human nature (and possibly wisdom?) Also, along with technology advancement, we are given easy access to so many choices outside the community, and our interests are outwards rather than inwards. I think neighbouring is becoming harder and harder. As GeeMc points out, perhaps, it is a little problematic that the sign demonises CEOs, as it can divide people. (I have reservations about imposing higher taxes on rich successful people; it's like punishing them for having reached where they are now through their hard work and achievements...) It would be great if there were a way small and big businesses can support one another. (It is normally the case that small businesses are absorbed by big businesses, though.) I like the idea that the members of community cooperate to achieve something from which everybody can benefit. But, if community spirit becomes so great that the expectation of conformity with the values they're supposed to share also becomes strong, that can interfere with individual liberty. Community works like a small government, and it can become a little authoritarian in my opinion. Small businesses vs. big businesses, individuals vs. community... It's hard to keep good balance.
This is community spirit, no?
Naomi comments on Aug 18, 2019:
Hello everyone. I'm glad that you like the sign, and although I like it, too, I was wondering if it is thinkable that some people may take this kind of sign virtue-signaling, or may feel compelled to use local services which are often not as good as services they can find on-line or from big chain supermarkets (I'm guilty of using eBay, Amazon, etc.). They may feel resentful, thinking "I shop wherever I like." Convenience, more affordable prices, freedom of choice... for those reasons, many small businesses are not doing very well in my town. Do you have similar problems in your communities? How can we actually help them to flourish in practical terms (without putting moral pressure on community members, perhaps)? Maybe, this is impossible...
