Milk vs Meat
1 Corinthians 3:2
"I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."
What is this teaching that Paul calls "meat" that the entire church of Corinth was not yet able to bear? Teachings that would have probably offended them or teachings they would reject?
1 Corinthians 3:3-5
"For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man."
When we follow those we consider "giants" in the faith, when we zelously defend our denomination instead what God has delivered to us in His word, does this not put us in the category of "carnal Christians?" Skipping v6 for brevity, it ends in v7.
1 Corinthians 3:7
"So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase."
The Theology and the interpretations of these giants in the faith should not be for us as the Talmud became the lens by which the Jews read the Torah. Shouldn't it be the Holy Spirit guiding us through the word of God instead?
But what could these teachings be that Paul calls "meat"? They should at least be in the bible already and not extra-biblical. Blessed were the Bereans, who received Paul's teachings with an open mind, yet checked the scriptures daily to see if it were so.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Sometimes we need to work at getting understanding. We need to dig to uncover a better grasp of the things that are too deep, too high, for us. Can't swallow it whole, it needs to be chewed on first, otherwise it may kill us?

Or lead us astray. The main barrier apparently is the unwillingness to receive with an open mind and (and this is important) to check the scriptures daily to see if it were so.
