The only thing I cannot, for many reasons, agree with Joel's Eschatology is that he is a post-Tribulationist. For one, if Enoch were a type for the church, he was pre-flood, not mid- or post-flood 
At any rate, I am in full agreement with him here.
But isn't Russia, China, the USA and all these major military powers in the bible? I believe they are. Search your bible app for "strangers" in conjunction with "terrible" or "the terrible of the nations." I believe these are them.

An example I would use to argue that it might not happen that way is the plagues on Egypt. The first several plagues happened to both the Egyptians and the Israelites. It was approximately the half way point that God says the plague will only fall on the Egyptians so they will know that God differentiates between His people and the Egyptians.

Your View actually works because the 7-year Tribulation is for the "benefit" of the Jewish people and nation (it IS called Jacob's Trouble, isn't it?) to give them the fear of God that they are forced to earnestly call for Messiah's return to save them (Hosea 5:15). God deals with Israel once the Church is out of the way. The Church, in my view, will not be playing harps in the clouds, but will be assisting the Lord in the administration of His earthly Kingdom, which can be rightly viewed as Kingdom FROM heaven, which we often use interchangeably with Kingdom of God. Proof that they are not synonymous is Matt 11:12. At any rate, the Lord RETURNS with all of His saints, so there.
"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." ~Matthew 11:11
Have you ever wondered what this verse means? It means that John the Baptist will be there as well, SERVING everyone including the least in the Lord's earthly Kingdom. An absolutely exciting thought
