When I first really came to notice (and not just read past through) these verses and realized their implication, it resulted in an Eschatological paradigm shift of sorts for me.
A closer study of these three verses makes the student of scripture consider the distinct possibility that these three are talking about the same group of people or nations who will somehow be dealing with the antichrist (and the vast multitude that follow him?) . "Terrible of the nations" seems to mean they are going to be military mights. Would "strangers" mean they did not exist yet at the time these passages were written? Who could these be?

And what is this "heat under a shadow of a cloud" that renders them "like chaff" that passes away "at an instant, suddenly?" Is this the part that must be shortened, "or no flesh will be saved?" What could these verses even mean? The verses are there. Can we just ignore them?

@dd54 Yes. But we must also remember that God uses third parties to bless or punish (e.g., Cyrus to bless and Nebuchadnezzar to punish, in this case, Israel). God using 3rd parties doesn't mean that it is not through the hand of God. Like "I shall send fire to the land of Magog" could be juxtaposed with Micah 5:5-6 and still be His act. Because, talking about the world's military mights, they're not exactly chummy with each other.
@dd54 We say patatas over here. Translation is not a problem because all these translations mean the same thing.
