I do not think anyone should have any kinds of weapons at all. If you need to sort something out you should talk it out. At worst have a small equally matched fist fight then make up afterwards. I understand that this would be hard to do in the currently in the world. The violence in the world only leads to more violence.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.The problem that your position fails to perceive is that bad folks do not care about rational action, and your right to bodily integrity and safety transcends every other interest. There are people who will prey on others, and I will not insult large carnivores by calling them predators - I am getting old enough now that a fair fight (which is a sign of bad tactics anyway) with younger offenders is not going to happen. Small women, for example, are not going to have a reasonable chance against a man my size, either. You are right in the abstract, but not realistic.

Humans naturally look to tools to help make our lives easier. It's what makes us both so incredible yet terrifying. There will always be someone looking for a way to make themselves better, faster, stronger, whether it's legal or not. Preventing another from being able to compete is cruel.
