@Clarken thanks for all that. As I said, at least you are honest. I had a friend that wanted to prove that gods do not exist from scientific point of view about 10 years ago. I told him he is wasting his time. Believe in Gods is what we call an untestable hypothesis... and science has no interest in those. You can also not disprove the existence of unicorns on Pluto, or fairies in the Amazon. So saying that you cannot disprove something is no prove if it’s existence at all. But I think you know that already. I have always stated that I will believe in any god or deity if only one, just one piece of evidence can be produced to prove that gods existence. But we digress... my original point is and remain that we cannot dictate to others based on our own beliefs. You chose Biblical truth, I chose science. Neither of us such be controlling others free will, unless of course it hurts others and we agree laws need to limit that free will. Having said that, I agree with 90% of Biblical morals and ideals ( as I do with Buddhism ). So our households may be very similar! Have a great holiday season.

@Clarken so to conclude my long response: My issue is not same sex marriages (I do not care what others do as long as they do not hurt others, it is none of my business). It is not important to me at all. My issue is that people feel that because of some believe system they get to dictate to other people how they should live their lives. In this case telling people who they should be allowed to marry and who not. It is just an example of a wider problem we have in the world. I know a lesbian couple who has a healthy happy relationship that now extends into its third decade... who is anyone to tell them they cannot get married in their own religion? Sorry, one more question: if you feel that Christianity was part of the foundation of the USA and should be recognised in law, should Sharia law also be recognised in Muslim countries as part of law?

@Clarken So my response to your response is at first that you brought up marriage as an institution created in the Bible. No, evidence of long term couples dates to ceremonial burials dating 75 000 years or more back... the Stormsrivier caves in South Africa if memory serve as well as the Kango caves. In the second, I am extremely knowledgeable of the Bible and especially its very early history. Then, if you believe that the first marriage occurred in Genesis 1/2, there is much I can say about that, but it will not be useful. The literal believe in Genesis 1/2 flies so much in the face of everything we discovererd the past 200 years... This must have been pointed out to you by others. I dislike talking about myself, however I need to say that I have been a Protestant Christian for 20 years and then a evangelical missionary for 13 as part of the Boston Movement, Church of Christ. My three year journey to become and agnostic is a personal one. What I am trying to say is that I not only read the Bible from cover to cover several times, but studied every NT book in detail at least once and most of the OT books as well. One of my favourite studies was the early history of the bible and actual chronology of the NT books. This unfortunately is also what started my personal road to agnosticism. Do you understand that marriage is just as important to all the groups I mentioned above and your views on it is not more important than anyone else’s... including those who believe that marriage may be between same sex people? Finally, allowing same sex people to be married, how does this diminish your own marriage? How does this affect you? Marriage may be arguably a moral issue, however it is NOT a spiritual or Biblical issue. It is a legal issue first and foremost today. Originally it was a survival issue, strong permanent or rather long term partners survived better and raised more kids. It has been included in most religions, however no religion today founded it. You complain that the LGBT people are pushing their agenda down our throats (I happen to agree btw), however you also now insist that Christians need to push their agenda down everyone else’s throat. @Tdonald there is a big difference between race and species... that is the whole point you are missing. My racial physical attributes are already on a list... Created by the very people who claim race does not exist. You confuse race with racism. One is a biological adaptation significant enough to be observable and have a significant effect on survival in natural habitats. The other is human response to the difference between people that are actually cultural constructs and not so much genetic effects. Claiming that there is no race will not stop discrimination... the left showed us this all through the 20th century. So not only is it wrong, it is futile.

@Tdonald white skin is a genetic adaptation so that what white peoples create more vitamin D compared to dark skinned. Ask doctors in Finland and Sweden about the issues immigrants face there. It is a gene that does that. Ditto long noses and hair of Europeans vs Africans. Genes are responsible. Populations living in mountains has a gene that allows gives them more hemoglobin in their blood. The list is very long ... just because you are ignorant does not mean it is not true. @Tdonald yeah, Racism is real, so is classism and culturism... does not mean classes and cultures don’t exist. Although it is the long term left dream that neither of them should. @Tdonald no you don’t... it is like some climate change believer saying they have science on their side because some scientist with biased objective only discuss one part of the equation. The genetic variation among Africans are large, however the it is much further apart from the variation among Polynesians... all Chinese genetics are closer to each other than any Indian. Hanno replies on Nov 15, 2019:
@Edgework OK, let’s start with the easy one: The statistical impossibility of just one working protein forming through a process of random chance. The physicist Gideon Joubert wrote a book where he tried to prove that an external force (god or something like that) had to be involved - The Great Thought. Really good book and translated in several languages. He studied organic chemistry and argued the probability of an amino acid (function protein unit) forming randomly is 1E30. That is 1 with 30 zeroes. He argued this amount to winning the lottery thousands of times. He however did not study chemical reaction kinetics: There are in the order of 1E25 molecules per m3 naturally occurring in sea water of the kind needed to form functional amino acid, CO2,H2O, SO2 etc... In aquatic environment, each molecule undergo in the order of 1E4 interactions per second. That means in one m3 if seawater, there are 1E33 possible interactions per day. That means statistically there are in the order thousands of amino acids forming in every m3 of seawater and there are billions of m3 of seawater. It is not just possible, but extremely likely. All above was proven by Miller-Urie experiments in the 1950’s and now it has also been observed in undersea geothermal vents.

Hanno replies on Nov 14, 2019:
@Edgework, @KeVince 150 years passed since Darwin. Basing evolution in Darwin is like basing a nuclear power plant on Niels Bohr‘a understanding of an atom. In Darwin’s time it was thought the earth is no more that 50 million years old. Darwin said his ideas will be validated if we find the fossils... and we found thousands. Now with genetic sequencing we have even better proof about the evolution of species and are able to link the different species today with older fossils. And in the intervening 150 years, not a single indication with any proof that evolution is wrong or misunderstood. A third beautiful exhibition I need to add is the “Cradle of mankind” in South Africa. The extent of hominid fossils from australopheticus to homo erectus to Homo sapiens and no less than 8 “transitional species” are their on display. Original fossils from the Sterkfontein caves and other systems from Kenya and Tanzania. The evidence is overwhelming. The only way you can doubt that is if you have very strong religious motivation to do so. And that has nothing to do with evidence or reasoning.

@Edgework please visit the Smithsonian museum of natural history in Washington DC. They have one of the most beautiful displays of the evolution of the elephant I have ever seen. It shows the gradual development of the different branches of elephant from the very early forms with their associated fossils all the way to the two modern species remaining. All in about 16 different “transitional species” if you want to call that from the shrew like probuscus to the modern trunks of African and Asian elephants. They also show the evolutionary dead ends of the mammoth and other extinct species. The second best display I ever saw was in the development of the first gill plate into the jaw in early plate fishes. If you look at these fossils and you still tell me evolution is fake or untested... you are wilfully ignorant.

Hanno replies on Nov 13, 2019:
@Edgework Hi Edge... there has to be at least some level of understanding in order to discuss these matters. Your statement that there are no transitional species shows a complete lack of understanding of evolution. ALL fossils and for that matter ALL living organisms are examples of transitional species as evolution is still continuing. If you are looking for species in the fossil record that shows the development of new species... just pop over to the Smithsonian or any other Natural History museum. To busy? Just google Archaeopteryx to see the transition of a dinosaur to bird. Want to see a living example of a fish evolving to live on land? Just google mudskipper. The examples are endless. The biggest breakthrough was in 2016 when we observed the evolution of bacteria in the laboratory. Evolution is the scientifically the most scrutinised of all the Scientific Theories. The evidence is vast and indisputable. In over 150 years no evidence was found to question evolution or suggest that the basic tenants are wrong. Sure we are still learning and our understanding is growing. However the understanding that all life evolved, is not disputed by anyone except people with religious motivations who has absolutely no proof or argument to the contrary. Unlike climate change... and that is the reason no one talks about the Theory of Climate Change. All scientists (real ones) talk about the Theory of Evolution.
