PODCAST: Austin City Reaches Its Limit.

The state government should appoint a dictator to rule Austin, since self-government has failed.

@sqeptiq You don't want it. Build walls around leftist cities and let them disintegrate. When Daenerys invaded Westeros she should have ignored King's Landing and instead consolidated the farmland. Without food, King's Landing is toast. It's the Ancient Roman "Fabian Strategy". Avoid battle and instead outfarm your foe. The rural counties of a state should secede from the state and form a new state. Leave the cities behind.

@LindseyBarrow I grant your point about the importance of history. I endorse teaching bigly history, the more the better. People who know history are fun to talk to. People who don't know history are boring. O'Reilly is the world's foremost writer of history books, and he stresses that he uses only original sources. He tells it like it is, like a reporter, rather than like a commentator. Thomas Aquinas College teaches humanities strictly from original sources. History, if taught from original sources, is one of the few humanities you can trust. What other humanities deserve to be included? Caltech, believe it or not, has a humanities department. Its humanities classes are rigorous and quantitative. Psychology is important, but that being said, I regard the fields of psychology and psychiatry to be failures. We should throw their journals into a bonfire and start over. Oration and acting should get attention. Millennials can't talk. Try listening in on their conversations in a Starbucks near a University and you'll see that they can't talk without lots of "uhs" and "likes", and they can't think more than 2 words ahead. They can't write without a word processor and Grammarly. Old-school writers could write with a quill pen and they could compose a paragraph in their heads before writing it down. We need orchestras. Millennials have lost the art of body language, and orchestras are a great way to teach body language. If you want to play with precise timing, you can't use sound alone. Sound isn't fast enough. You need to use your eyes. There are too many ologies. Too many fields of study. They grow like weeds and they're mere subsidies for deadweight academics. Most fields should not be publicly funded.

@Weltansicht China is sloppy and plague prone. When a plague erupts in China, the polite thing to do would be to tell the rest of the world immediately, and give the rest of the world the opportunity to restrict travel, but they don't. Instead China hides the existence of the virus and encourages virus carriers to travel out of China to the rest of the world. The CCP is a bunch of jerks. China uses the WHO to amplify plagues, not destroy them. The world should formally charge the CCP with biological warfare. Nations should bombard the international war crimes court in The Hague with charges against China. China is so plague prone that it's reasonable to level the charge that they are creating the plagues.

@Serg97 Democrats are magnitude blind. They never calculated the magnitude of cow farts, and they never calculated the magnitude of the costs to civilization if we ban cows. It turns out that when you do the calculation you find that cow farts contribute negligibly to global warming. Also, 95% of bovine methane emissions are from burps. Democrats are proving their ignorance by talking about farts. Feedstock additives can suppress 90% of bovine methane emissions. If you calculate magnitudes, almost all Democrat talking points bite the dust. Tackling this problem requires weighing two separate factors: Cow burps vs. the importance of cows to the economy. It's a 2D problem. Democrats are incapable of holding more than 1 variable in their heads.

@Poncho69 A turbulent fluid that is electrically conductive generates magnetic fields by dynamo action. Energy is transferred from fluid kinetic energy to magnetic field energy. Magnetic fields tend to backreact on the turbulence that created them (Lenz's law). This causes the fluid to become less turbulent. Also, magnetic fields tend to act to relieve stress by re-aligning themselves into a configuration with less stress. Magnetic field stress builds up until it can no longer re-arrange itself to reduce the stress. The stress is released in a "magnetic reconnection event". The reconnection event happens in a small region. This focuses the energy of a large volume of magnetic field into a small place, which produces an explosion, which is a sunspot. I published a paper on this in the Astrophysical Journal. This is the paper that first proved the existence of the turbulent magnetic back reaction, and it characterizes how magnetic fields re-arrange themselves into a lower stress state. https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2004ApJ...603..569M/abstract

jaymaron replies on May 9, 2021:
@timon_phocas Flight gets easier if you increase the atmospheric oxygen density, or increase the overall air density, or decrease gravity, or decrease the aircraft mass. In the dinosaur age, oxygen was greater and air density was greater. Oxygen today = 21%. Dinosaur oxygen = 35%. Density of dinosaur air / Density of air today = 5 Define flight prowess as: Q = Oxygencontent * Airdensity^{1/2} * Gravity^{-3/2} * Mass^{-1/3} The larger Q is, the more flyable you are. The minimum power/mass required to fly scales as 1/Q. "Mass" is the mass of the flying object. The lighter you are, the easier it is to fly. Increasing oxygen content and air density enables heavy organisms to fly. Aeronautics: jaymaron.com/aeronautics.html https://www.jaymaron.com/aeronautics.html

Several states have ceased advanced mathematics instruction for high schoolers. Marxists have declared war on math. How dumb is this? It's well established that for musical instruments, the earlier you start, the better. Most of the great violinists started when they were 3 and they were performing concertos by age 10. Paine was treated like a celebrity, like he was Rush Limbaugh. He got free drinks and food wherever he went. Soldiers carried with them a bible and Paine's pamphlet. In the book, Washington gives Paine an order to go to Philadelphia and publish more pamphlets, because he needed to boost American morale. The show "Liberty's Kids: American Revolution" is a story seen through the eyes of 3 kids working in Franklin's print shop. They often bungled the printer and got ink all over themselves. It was one of the show's chief comedic devices. There is an episode that stars Paine. It feels like 18th century Americans were smarter than 21st Century Americans. @BayOWulf @1patriot @sqeptiq @BlackoutNJ @ramzpaul @DaisyCousens @dizzynews Agree, that there needs to be engagement. There are celebrity pundits on IDW but most of them are hit and run celebrities. They post their articles on IDW but they don't follow up with discussion. What's the point of discussing the posts? No thrill. For hit and run celebrities, the posts are not being made by the celebrity. They're being made by surrogates. There are a handful of celebrities that post on IDW and also participate in discussion. These are heroes. It's motivating to give energy to discussing their posts, knowing that they participate in the discussion. The hero celebrities on IDW that participate in discussion are BlackoutNJ, ramzpaul, Daisy Cousens, and dizzynews. The columns in the table are: Name, number of posts, number of replies. BlackoutNJ 53 194 ramzpaul 502 160 Daisy Cousens 123 53 dizzynews 547 32 VDARE 1401 6 RealAlexJones 6303 2 Sydney Watson 7 2 UndergroundUSA 844 0 How do we entice more celebrity pundits to join IDW? We can promise them an enthusiastic audience. The audience is more important than the orchestra. Without an audience, a celebrity is nothing. A great audience can amplify a celebrity. A great audience can wield more heft than the celebrities. A smart celebrity would realize this and engage the audience synergistically.

@HistoryCorner In BC 534, the first theatre competition was held in Athens, and was won by Thespis. The competition occurred because Thespis had pioneered the concept of acting. This was an important advance for civilization, the concept of playing a character other than yourself. Opens up the brain. George Martin's Game of Thrones is successful because Martin is gifted in creating diverse characters. That's *real* diversity. Dungeons and Dragons was an advance for civilization by creating a medium for people to create and play characters. Today, leftists demand that you can only be yourself. Cultural appropriation is forbidden. Leftists are taking civilization backward. Leftists are incapable of perceiving the feelings of anyone not identical to themselves. History offers us a rich roster of characters to play. I am Spartacus! I am Washington! I am Trump!

@wolfhnd The oceans are nutrient poor. Volcanos add nutrients to the oceans. Undersea volcanic vents are full of life. Adding iron dust to the ocean triggers microbe growth. It's the cheapest form of carbon capture. It works so well that we don't have to worry about CO2 emissions. Haha. Yet leftists try to sabotage any experiment on ocean iron fertilization. On land, plant biomass outweighs animal biomass, and in the oceans it's the other way around. On land, only a small fraction of plants are eaten and in the ocean almost all plants are eaten. Land photosynthesis is twice ocean photosynthesis. If the oceans had nutrients, the Earth would explode in new biomass and biodiversity. Ocean oxygen hinges on ocean circulation. At present the oceans are circulating and so the deep ocean has oxygen. If the continents move and cut off the circulation, the oceans lose oxygen. Wikipedia "thermohaline circulation".

@Krunoslav To make Republicanism well defined mathematically, The "Gini number" characterizes distributions. For example, if everyone has the same wealth, the Wealth Gini number is 0, and if one person has all the wealth, the Wealth Gini number is 1. Gini number: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gini_coefficient The Gini number can characterize any distribution. In addition to defining a Wealth Gini, we can also define a "Power Gini", a measure of the distribution of power. If a dictator has all the power, the Power Gini number is 1, and if all individuals have equal power, the Power Gini is 0. Republicanism strives to decrease the Power Gini and Democratism strives to increase the Power Gini. Democrats virtue signal about wealth redistribution. How about power redistribution? Transfer federal power to local power. To make it a sound bite, Republicans rank in order of importance: Individual Town County State Nation World Democrats rank them the other way around.

@Krunoslav Some systems are "natural" and some are "unnatural". The rules of soccer are natural. They're simple and they produce a fun game. The rules of football are unnatural. The rule book is thick and it takes at least 6 refs to enforce. The 12-tone musical system is natural in that it's generated by pure mathematics. There are no human choices, and it's mathematically the best system. If aliens play music, we will find that they use the 12-tone scale. The rules of chess are unnatural. If aliens play a board games, they probably have a game like chess but the rules will be slightly different. There is no universal principle deciding the rules of chess. The chess master Emanuel Lasker said: "While the Baroque rules of Chess could only have been created by humans, the rules of Go are so elegant, organic, and rigorously logical that if intelligent life forms exist elsewhere in the universe, they almost certainly play Go. There's only one way the rules of Go can be, in order for the game to make sense. Republicanism is natural. It's logically consistent and generated by a compact elegant principle: individual liberty. There may conceivably be an alien world with courageous patriots that writes a Bill of Rights, and it will be similar to ours. Leftism is unnatural. There is no core set of principles and no logical framework. Leftists therefore hate logicians. The essence of leftism is greed. More for my gang. That's all there is to it. Leftism is catchy. Simpletons love it. Chances are that alien worlds also have a leftism problem.

Glucose + Oxygen -> 30 ATP of energy Glucose + Sulfur -> 2 ATP of energy This is because oxygen is more electronegative than sulfur. This is why aerobes have a decisive advantage over anaerobes in an MMA fight. Aerobes dominate the areas where there is oxygen and anaerobes are deep underground where there is no oxygen. All multicellular life is aerobic. A human brain uses 20 Watts, and there is no way an anaerobe could produce this much power. Therefore, intelligent life requires an oxygen atmosphere. Aerobic respiration produces H2O and anaerobic respiration produces H2S. H2S is toxic to aerobes. In the Permian extinction, the anaerobes got out of control and flooded the atmosphere with H2S. If subsets of the UK have wide autonomy, then the question of independence is moot. Every nation should fission. There should be a worldwide Balkanization fiesta.

@Krunoslav I miss the medieval age. Things made more sense then.
I was curious as to why many of the major indices have similar looking charts.

Someone should make an index of small American businesses for us to invest in. Ditch large corporations.
jaymaron replies on Apr 17, 2021:
@Jurecki If they don't disclose, then we may assume the origin is China. Shame non-disclosure. Hopefully product labels will become a thing of virtue signaling. Imagine a cheese saying: "Made in Wisconsin". I'll buy that cheese. Imagine a cheese saying: "Made in Wisconsin on a rural dairy farm, owned by a family that has lived in Wisconsin for generations. Not owned by a corporation". The ultimate virtue label: "Not made in China" Furthermore, not made by a corporation that kisses China's ass. Somebody should make a list of the network of corporations owned by the CCP. Once upon a time, the official Chinese Farm Agency declared that there is no live plucking of geese in China. Live plucking is painful to geese. IKEA conducted their own independent investigation and found wanton live plucking. IKEA ceased buying Chinese goose down. Chinese goose down is conflict down. There is a farm in Newfoundland that produces duck down, and their source is exclusively down that was naturally molted. They feed the ducks and collect molt down from the nests. The ducks lead a merry life. Molt down is virtue down. The Newfoundland farm sells their virtue down for 1000 $/kg. Bird down is important. It far outperforms the best human-engineered fills. Mexican gangs seize Mexican farmland by force and produce avocados, using un-green farming practices. America gobbles up these avocados. These are conflict avocados. jaymaron.com/ecology.html#down https://www.jaymaron.com/ecology.html#down

@Krunoslav Government has a monopoly on government, and this needs to be destroyed by having choices of government. Every American county should hold a caucus and select a Trump-style speaker to express attitude and deliver rallies. All counties should declare themselves independent and then form leagues instead of states. During the Revolutionary War there was no Federal government, only a set of independent states. They did fine. They kicked Britain's butt. We need Teddy Roosevelt to Balkanize large corporations.
There is a reason they call it HERD immunity....

Luke Skywalker wisely realized that the sheep-like Ewoks were an army capable of taking down a Death Star. Skywalker was captured by the Ewoks. He could have used his Force Powers to escape but he instead wisely chose ambassadorship and became leader of the Ewoks. Under Skywalker's leadership the Ewoks took down a Death Star.

Yes, energy = wealth. You can treat it like a mathematical theorem. It's bank. Democrats are trapped in the nutshell question of "which energy source is best"? The answer is all of them, and as much from each as possible, because this is how you make energy cheap. The fundamental measure of the health of an economy is the price of energy. Democrats want to make a Mad Max world. The price of gasoline and electricity varies widely by state, which tells you there exist bullschist states. If everything were optimized, energy would be the same price in all states. Governors of states with cheap energy should virtue signal. Not all doctors are created equal. Doctor Albert Einstein is more equal than Doctor Jill Biden. Doctor Strangelove brings glory to the title of Doctor.
jaymaron replies on Apr 13, 2021:
@MikeHunt One of America's great immigrants was Szilard, who invented the fission bomb in 1933 and told no one. The first mention he made of it was to tip off President Roosevelt through the Einstein Letter, which led to Roosevelt going all in and dropping 2 billion dollars on the Manhattan Project. Another of America's great immigrants was Teller, who was Hungarian, like Szilard. Teller developed America's fusion bombs. Doctor Strangelove is modeled after Doctor Teller. 20th Century American physicists mastered nuclear physics, but America forgot nuclear physics. The feds haven't allowed a new fission reactor in decades. We need to tap into the spirit of 20th century American physics and reincarnate people like Szilard and Teller. I attended U. Wisconsin on scholarship with the Institute of Nuclear Power Organizations, and I dreamed of building fission reactors, and I was crushed with disappointment to find that the feds forbid new reactors. Nuclear physicists have been designing badass reactors for 3 decades and are itching to build them. They're shovel ready. Glorious American physics in World War 2: jaymaron.com/ww2.html https://www.jaymaron.com/ww2.html Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Japan" glorifies American physics.
My sentiments exactly.

If we were again a just nation, at minimum Fauci would be investigated and prosecuted.

If Fauci were held to the same standards as a football coach, he would have been fired. Fauci was blessed with the power of the United States and he produced poor predictions. That's like a football coach being blessed with the Notre Dame football team and producing a losing season. The fault lies not with Notre Dame. The fault lies with the coach. Fire the coach.

The same applies to rockets. Most novel rockets have a feeble power/mass. The future is fission thermal rockets, which have a good power/mass. jaymaron.com/astronautics.html https://www.jaymaron.com/astronautics.html
jaymaron replies on Apr 13, 2021:
@Poncho69 Fission is a fully-mastered technology. We can fully simulate any fission device on a computer, and fission reactors can be made unconditionally safe. It baffles me that we don't already have fission thermal rockets. We were testing them as early as 1955. We have lots of great designs for new fission reactors that the feds won't let us build. A fission thermal rocket is easier than a fission power reactor. You don't have to worry about safety or radioactivity.

@HistoryCorner Alexander Technique treats the mind-body system mechanically, which allows them to be specific and precise. Psychiatrists deal in meds, which are unspecific and imprecise. Psychiatrists *do* *not* have a theory. Altech has a theory. Shaolin has a theory. When you formulate the problem in terms of mechanics, you open the door for the magic of physics to get involved. Your brain is always spending too much time calculating muscle balance. If you improve your muscle balance, your brain can make room for something new. This is the principle strategy of Alexander Technique. Bruce Lee: Not the daily increase, but the daily decrease. Keep chipping away at what's unnecessary. Music conservatories used to neglect the body but now they fully embrace Alexander Technique. I think my favorite would be Abe's setting aside legalities and conventional political correctness of the day in order to save the Union. But I don't think that was part of the revolutionary war.

The North had 22000 miles of rail and the South had 9000. Lincoln nationalized the North rail and used it for the Civil War. The South failed to harness their rail for the war. Northern rail was hooked up with telegraph wires and Southern rail wasn't. Lincoln had instant communication with the entire North, and the ability to deliver troops fast with rail.

@Mechanic O'Reilly tells the story of a teenage Andrew Jackson, who courageously fought for America in the Revolutionary War, was captured, and was tortured by the British. This established that the British did not view Americans as equals. If you capture an enemy soldier, a civilized army treats him well and hands him over at the end of the war, or hands him over even earlier in a prisoner exchange. An uncivilized army tortures him. This had consequences. Later on, Andrew Jackson kicked Britain's ass at New Orleans. Britain's justification for waging war against The Colonies was that they were the rightful rulers of The Colonies. Rightful or not, they're mean to those they rule. British General Charlton was infamous for killing prisoners of war. The expression "Charlton quarter" became a euphamism for "no quarter".
