The word "perilous" to describe the times in the last days in 2Tim 3:1 was translated from the Greek χαλεπός (khalepos), which is also translated as "fierce" in Matthew 8:28 to describe the two Gergesene demoniacs. As Andrew Klavan had observed, is it possible that they prefer the pronouns "they" and "them" because they many, they are legion?

Paul puts it in the verse itself: "in the last days." The "where," however, is not specified, but since many verses state that it will be in the whole world (e.g. Rev 3:10), it is assumed to be a global thing.

Another word/phrase of interest in the passage is "truce breakers" (v3), which was translated from the Greek ἄσπονδος (aspondos) which can also be translated as "truceless." Like enemies who do not cease plotting evil against you. That one also seems a familiar thing these days.
@Mechanic Our Lord has a much far-reaching view of end time events than we have, as He has pre-existed Creation itself. In Matt 24:32-33, He says that end time events are already "at the door" once we see the fig tree (which is symbolic of political Israel) bud and flourish again. And that was in 1948 yet, when the state of Israel was reistablished. Our Lord said the generation that witnessed that fig tree reblossoming will not all die off until His Millennial Reign commences. I've given this example in several of my posts and comments, that those who were 7 years old to witness the reistablishment of the state of Israel in 1948, will be 100 years old in 2041. That's a good 20 years away and would fit everything in that time period to include the 7 year Tribulation, the Obadiah/Psalm 83 war, the Rapture and the Magogian invasion of Ezekiel 38 and 39. But it could be way sooner than 2041. Yes we are getting very close.
