People are blind until God gives them sight. But, the Pharisees knew who Jesus was. That's why they killed Him. Jesus told a parable about it.

dmatic Level 8 Apr 26, 2021

I thought they didn't like him because he called them viper's

@Poncho69 That, too. But when they saw Him...they said: "Look it's the heir. Let's kill Him then we can have the kingdom...."

@dmatic The parable of the vineyard in Mark 12, the way you interpret it, goes in contradiction to 1 Cor 2:8

"Which none of the princes of this world knew: FOR HAD THEY KNOWN IT, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE CRUCIFIED THE LORD OF GLORY ."

You must remember that the Lord Jesus did not give the parable in the context of the vineyard owner as God Himself, but just as a vineyard owner. The Pharisees had no idea it was the Messiah Himself they were dealing with.

Daniel 9:25 gave them the timetable where - if they had figured it out - they would have known the exact date of the Messiah's visitation. From the decree made by Ataxerxes on March 14, 445BC that the Jews in Babylon could go home and rebuild their destroyed city to "the Messiah the Prince" was 69 weeks. It turned out that it was 69 weeks of years - 483 Jewish years or exactly 173,880 days - to its termination in April 6, 32AD. And what transpired in April 6, 32AD? Zechariah 9:9 got fulfilled in what we now know as the Triumphal Entry.

Proof that they missed figuring out Daniel 9:25 is what the Lord uttered on the very day He came to present Himself as King in Luke 19:41-44, that they knew not the time of His visitation (ἐπισκοπή). This word visitation (ἐπισκοπή) is only used twice in reference to the Lord's visitation, and the other time is in 1Pet 2:12, talking about His Second Coming. If the 1st century rabbis failed to figure out Dan 9:25, how else could they have known that He was the Messiah? And take note, they do not believe God is a Trinity, so how could they say "Look it's the heir. Let's kill Him then we can have the kingdom...."?

Taking the Mark 12 parable as the rabbis knowing Jesus was the Son of God is really - and my apologies for saying this - sloppy scholarship.

@eschatologyguy ""Which none of the princes of this world knew: FOR HAD THEY KNOWN IT, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE CRUCIFIED THE LORD OF GLORY ."

The princes of the power of the air?

Or, do you think this refers to the Sanhedrin? Actual people?

@eschatologyguy By the way, please don't mistake me for a scholar. Thanks

@dmatic And who did Jesus say the father was of those in the Sanhedrin who rejected the Lord of Glory (ref John 8:44)? Are you saying that the 1st century Sanhedrin knew more than their master? That they knew that Jesus was the Son of God?

If they didn't even know that Elijah was in their midst (Matt 17:12), how much more could they have known that the Son of God was in their midst? They were hardly the kind of people who would know Who Jesus was. What they were good at were the outward things of religion, rules that would give them control over the people. As the Lord said, they were dull of seeing and hearing. To base a doctrine on one parable, and a misinterpreted one at that, is shakey ground. Interpretations should not be private. Scripture should interpret scripture.

@dmatic "By the way, please don't mistake me for a scholar. Thanks"

My bad and my apologies. I wasn't referring to you but to pastors who teach these things.

@eschatologyguy It is interesting in the accounts, that, often, the demons and evil spirits seemed to recognize Who Jesus was before any of the chosen people did?

@dmatic Of course. Satan himself came to tempt Him, didn't he? But he didn't know the purpose of His coming (1Cor 2:8), which was to offer Himself up as the Lamb the Father provided for our salvation. The Sanhedrin, on the other hand, knew neither His identity nor the purpose of His coming.

@eschatologyguy OK

So...the bit about no one knows the day, not even the angels in heaven was wrong?

Your comment is a little bit confusing. Seeing all the signs of the end times has nothing to do with a date but rather all the prophesies in the Bible seem to be unfolding before our eyes. It this the time? Who knows, but most would rather be in good standing with His coming and are eager to greet him than to be asleep at the switch. For many, signs of the 8th kingdom launching shortly is pretty ominous.

I"ll post a video about what diffrentiates the Rapture from the Second Coming. It is the Rapture that "no one knows the day nor the hour". As for the Second Coming, it is "immediately after the Tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened..." There is a reason why the Blessed Hope of Titus 2:13 and the proscription about yearning for the Day of the LORD in Amos 5:18 seem to contradict each other: they are not talking about the same thing. The Rapture can happen anytime, without warning or pre-conditions. The Second Coming, on the other hand, cannot happen today. The Lord is seen only by loving eyes during the Rapture. And all the world will see Christ returning with all His saints in the Second Coming.

@eschatologyguy You sure about the rapture theory. I thought that had been debunked years ago.

@dmatic if you go to a denominational church where pastors teach Amillennialism, Preterism or in any way allegorizes Eschatological prophecies and the promised return of Christ to Reign as literal King on earth from Jerusalem, then of course you will not believe in the Rapture or the Harpazo. You've heard that side. I suggest you listen to the other side as well. Try Dr. Andy Woods'

@eschatologyguy Thanks, I'll check it out....Have you heard of historicism?

@dmatic popular lens in viewing bible prophecy during the reformation. A close cousin to Preterism. Is that your lens?

@eschatologyguy Nope. Not a preterist.

@eschatologyguy May I ask you where you think "Israel" is? By the way, I suppose I would define myself as a pre-millennialist, meaning I believe we are in a time before the Millennial reign of Christ.

@dmatic Interesting. So how does it go in your view? How does it come about, the Millennial Reign of Christ? Since you think the Rapture "theory" is debunked despite numerous prophecies addressing this future event, does the Church stay on earth, in your view, till Christ returns? Are you at liberty to say which denomination you belong to?

@eschatologyguy The "church" are the called out ones, the body of Christ. Called out, as Abraham from his 'people', as the Children of Israel called out of Egypt, as the "Jews" from Judaism of Jesus' day. Come out from among them and be ye separate. The Head (Jesus) will be united with the body (His Church) and God's Kingdom will come to Earth, and the meek shall inherit the earth and delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

When the virgins with oil in their lamps go out to meet Him they will accompany Him the rest of the way back to earth. Of course the Church stays on the earth, if that wasn't clear. "Mystery Babylon"'s authority to rule the earth has been taken away, the stone kingdom and God's Saints will be given the right to rule and produce the fruit that God is looking for. Certainly, "Babylon" is not happy about this and stubbornly fights to preserve its vanishing authority but God will have His Way.

@dmatic I missed to read this one. Apologies.

As I understand it, the 10 virgins with oil lamps cannot be the bride as they are the bridesmaids. The Bridegroom is there, the bridesmaids are there, but where is the Bride? Already hidden in the wedding chamber. One way to confirm this is to ascertain who the Lord is speaking to, and He is speaking to the Jews, not to the Church. Shortly before He returns, there will be a snatching away of those surviving Jews who cannot enter His Millennial Kingdom. Not to paradise, but to perdition, to fulfill the prophecy in Amos 9:10

"All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us."

How does it happen? We read it in Luke 17:34-37 (I believe this is the same snatching away to perdition described in Matt 24, as it is also being addressed to the Jews).

"I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles (some translations say "vultures" ) be gathered together."

The snatching away to safety (which I like to call the "evacuation" ) of the Church (which is described in 1Cor. 15:52-57) happens before Jacob's Trouble. Jacob's Trouble is for the benefit of the remnant Jews. In Hosea 5:15 we read

"I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their offence (their rejection of Him), and seek My face: in their affliction they will seek Me [earnestly]."

Christ will not return until they petition Him, in their desperation, to come.

@eschatologyguy Not sure where the Bride's chamber is, but the ones taken are the unrighteous...then the meek will inherit the earth and delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
