Another decent personal perspective from Alteori on the TV and movie trend.
Being a big sci-fi fan I used to Love female leads, prefer even, Ripley obviously then Resident Evil Underworld and even Lara Croft for example.
Now I see a female lead as an avatar for politcal grandstanding or preaching so I avoid.
I also resent being told I'm somehow uncomfortable with modern female leads even though I used to worship them.
Not getting this distinction is a major fault, not getting fired for overlooking this take is another major fault as you are deliberately ignoring the audience.
Same goes for black leads, Blade was awesome for example.
Hey - female leads are not a new thing. I'm thinking Barbarella, Debbie (does Dallas) and many others from back in the day. Oh hey just thought of an old timey Black Female lead role - she did it numerous times of the 5 decades. Her name is Pam Grier...one hot momma. Foxy Brown, Coffy, Jackie Brown.
She was not only totally fuckable but strong, wicked, and not apologetic at all about kicking men in the proverbial nuts.
lol!!
You forgot Ghosts of Mars..
