@MDonaldson you do know that in court, all evidence must be shared with each side before being presented? So the "other side" would see it anyway before the public. Also, if this is the argument, then what's to stop any ridiculous claim from being given equal weight? Let me go on mainstream media and claim, with no evidence provided, that Trump is working directly for Putin because of the infamous pee-tape blackmail. Remember when Trump claimed he had private investigators in Hawaii digging up "unbelievable things" about Obama, and he would be releasing this Earth-shattering evidence to prove Obama was not born in the USA? I'll remind you if you forget: https://remember45.com/claimed-he-sent-investigators-to-hawaii/ What ever happened with that? Nothing. Cohen even claimed he lied about it. So how is this any different? Trump is the most hyperbolic person possibly in history. Everything about him is "amazing" and "the best" and "the greatest". He has "perfect" phone calls. He has "the best people". He uses "the best words". He is the "most presidential" person in history. He is the "least racist" person in the room. He is the "healthiest" president in history. So forgive me if I don't believe this is "the greatest fraud we've ever seen".

JacksonNought comments on Dec 1, 2020:
Not all old movies could be made today, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We don't need to repeat embarrassments like Mickey Rooney in *Breakfast at Tiffany's* or the blackface crows in *Dumbo*. Others may not be seen as "woke" and could be considered "too white" but that wouldn't stop them...
JacksonNought replies on Dec 1, 2020:
@Admin to be honest I was never really a fan of any of the popular Hughes movies. I don't really enjoy rooting for characters who are truly assholes who are manipulative and abusive to the people around them, like Ferris Bueller. But regarding TBC, no character had any redeeming qualities. The supposed point of the movie is to challenge stereotypes, but at the same time it reinforces them. You had several delinquents causing trouble and terrorizing the principal, and we are supposed to take the kids' sides and assume the authority figure is the villain by default. You have Anthony Michael Hall, the suicidal teen who feels pressure over his workload, and at the end of the day all the other kids basically force him into doing their work. There was no lesson learned here. Judd Nelson's character basically emotionally abuses (an apparently at one point molests) Molly Ringwald until he breaks her will enough to sleep with him. This actually caused real-world issues on set, as he stayed in-character on set and tormented her, which was troubling since he was 25 and she was 16. Ally Sheedy was considered an outcast and unworthy of affection, until she gets a makeover and looks like the male's accepted definition of beauty. Only then does she earn Emilio Estevez's admiration, and the "prize" of dating him. They didn't break the stereotype of the jock here, having him fall for the outsider - they played into it by making the outsider change so it was acceptable for the jock to be with her. Part of the reason people liked the movie, and found it so revolutionary, is that it showed teenage characters who were multi-dimensional. But did it really? They were all essentially stereotypes. Just because they had issues with their parents didn't really change anything, it just added one more layer to their stereotype. And they had no real growth in the movie at all, just a whiplash-inducing shift in the last 5 minutes to make it seem like they were somehow different. Even the characters themselves acknowledged nothing probably changed, after detention everything would go back to the way it was.

JacksonNought replies on Nov 19, 2020:
@Joehlert11 sexual is only in how someone perceives it. Why are men allowed to go topless, but not women? Can't people find topless men sexual? In Muslim-run countries, women have to wear burkas because the mere sight of a woman is too sexual and impure - is that how we want to handle ourselves? Remember when women showing their ankles was scandalous? Yes, you have to toe the line and figure out where your rights end and another's begins. So you are saying going topless infringes on someone else's rights because they have to be exposed to it? But you don't think the same applies to spreading a disease to someone? You may dismiss it as not serious enough, but we have seen over 250k Americans die over the past 8 months. You don't know how someone will react when catching it, whether they have immunodeficiencies or underlying conditions which will make it much worse for them. The main point of the mask is to protect others from spreading it, and by not wearing one or not social distancing, you are putting others at risk and exposing them without their consent. Someone could be making a much-needed trip to the grocery store, taking all precaution, but you decided to attend a packed gathering the day before and now are carelessly walking through the store without following safety guidelines, and spread the virus to them and they end up dying. But you did it because of your "freedoms" - how is that any different than going topless for freedom and someone sees it who chose not to? Typically being careless are resulting in someone's death can result in involuntary / voluntary manslaughter charges. We've seen people actually charged for spitting on people during the pandemic. We just can't apply this consistently because we can't trace who is spreading. The science seems pretty clear on masks, actually. The medical grade ones are more for protecting the wearer, the other masks (when worn properly) protect others. They are based on the science that we continually evolve on with new information - as science operates - which is why masks weren't originally required. And yes, we already let the government regulate everything else. As I already said, we let them define who we marry and what someone can do with their own body (drugs, prostitution, etc). After 9/11 we let the government get away with invasion and murder to circumventing due process because it made people feel safe from their Islamic paranoia. We let the government enforce arbitrary hurdles based on religious propaganda on perfectly legal procedures, like mandatory waiting periods and forced ultrasounds for abortions. The same people who protests wearing a thin piece of cloth on their face are usually the ones who think it is okay to run over protesters for walking in the street or think it is ...

@parsifal, @Jrockintx83 they are not a publisher for choosing what content is allowed. They are not creating or curating content, it is still user generated. Section 230 protection means they cannot be held liable for user content - if someone makes a post encouraging violence on someone, and then someone actually goes through with it, Twitter cannot be sued for letting that happen. That does not mean they can't set their own TOS and rules for who can have an account and post. I will once more bring up sex workers. Can we start holding hearings on platforms like Facebook and YouTube because they don't allow nudity or sexual content? That is a total infringement on free speech and censoring people, right? It should be a free-for-all of anything people want to post? If you want to take away Section 230 protection, then you are welcoming mass bannings of people for the platforms to protect themselves, probably Trump as the very first one. Parler is making its users agree to a clause to pay for legal bills if they are sued for content - would you prefer Twitter do this? Maybe they should, so some random troll in his basement will be forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars in legal feels for deciding to post that Hillary Clinton eats babies.

@Afterthought but again, Facebook and Twitter are not civil rights. You do not have a "right" to be given a platform to reach millions upon millions of people to share your opinions. I will use the nudity example again - Facebook bans nudity or sexual content. A sex worker cannot use Facebook to promote the sale of their nude photos. This is no different than telling someone they cannot use Facebook to spread misinformation about Election results or pandemic issues. Facebook and Twitter are privately companies which can set their rules how they see fit, and you do not have a right demand they let you promote yourself. I absolutely agree with you that blacklisting or "cancelling" is wrong, and people should not be banned from using banks or travel or other public utilities because of their backwards thinking. You can make the argument that if one bank or travel company bans them, then they can just go to another one - but what if they all ban? That can be problematic. I feel the same way about the whole bakery / florist vs same-sex couple debate, as there is no guarantee the couple could find a different place to accommodate them.

Writers can cite whatever they want. But that doesn't legitimize anything. I'd actually say you delegitimize yourself if you use Hitler's paranoid ramblings as evidence. Why do *you* lie about indigenous populations in America pre-Christian occupation? There were millions of native people living in America, and no - Columbus and other Christian settlers did not treat them "gently". There was murder, rape, enslavement... even after America was more establish, the native populations were still treated abhorrently. Ever hear of the Trail of Tears? Christians in the USA did not leave people in peace. In fact, the Salem Witch Trials mostly started because of prejudice towards Native Americans. I already acknowledged that religiously, Judaism is not innocent when it comes to slavery or other atrocities. After all, the Old Testament is the Jewish book. But I am willing to condemn the religion of Judaism, on the same level of the religion of Christianity. You are removing religion from the conversation and attacking Jews based on lineage and ethnicity. Again, you are the liar here. Christian dogma is 100% forced on non-believers. We have fortunately made great strides in the past 300 years to become a more secular and pluralist nation, with Christian influence being less legally mandated, but that doesn't stop them from still trying. If you idolize the first American Christian settlers so much, you should encourage school districts no longer celebrating Christmas - the Puritans banned it.

@Corjova so you base you opinion on Jews not from knowing Jews, and acknowledging they are not a monolith, and seeing them as an ethnicity no different than Germans or Italians... but on three books you own. Lovely. And you just happen to own several books on how Jews are evil. Yeah, you seem like a swell guy. Not a Nazi sympathizer or anything. I guess I should base all of my opinions on Christians based on books... let's see, how about *God Is Not Great* by Hitchens, or *Reflections on the Evils of Christianity* by Darien, or *The God Delusion* by Dawkins. I am not going to get into a debate about MacDonald's theories yet again. It is like trying to have an actual debate with someone who believes in Flat Earth, or Lizard People, or QAnon... there is just no logic there. Nathan Cofnas has already completely destroyed MacDonald's argument in various rebuttals, saying he "misuses sources, applies his theory differently to Jews and non-Jews, and chooses a complicated explanation for Jewish history when simpler ones would suffice." You might as well quote *Mein Kampf*... which, by the way, the person I previously mentioned who always quoted MacDonald also quoted MK as well. Again, great company to keep. You do realize the USA was already home to people. The the Christians came in and slaughtered and enslaved them all, forcing their ways on them. Yeah, I consider that a virus cult destroying a host country and wiping away all previous traces in favor of their own. Just like the Crusades. You also know the whole "Christian settlers... for free Christians who are allowed to worship God in any way they see fit" thing is not true, right? The Christians / Puritans left England because it wasn't *their* flavor of Christianity, and they wanted a theocracy of their own, where they imposed their extremely narrow and strict practice on the colonies. Look at the Salem Witch Trials. They banned Christmas. Only church members could vote or hold office. Any question against the church was a crime and resulted in imprisonment. Just look at the stockades, and scarlet letters. "Christian do not enslave people" wow, that is one of the most ridiculous things you have said so far. First, American slave-holders used the Bible to justify slavery, commonly quoting *Genesis IX, 18–27* and *Ephesians VI, 5-7*. No slavery in Europe? Again, ever hear of the Crusades? Church law endorsed slavery as an "instrument for Christian conversion" where Christians were protected from slavery, but Muslims and non-Christian pagans were acceptable to enslave. European Christians initially saw non-Christians as "natural slaves". After the expansion into the new world, Christians started to change from non-Christian slaves to non-European slaves, and set their sights on Africa. They ...

@Corjova oh great, another person quoting MacDonald. You aren't the first on this site, and I doubt you'll be the last. Just so you know the company you are joining, there was a poster a couple months ago who would go around quoting MacDonald constantly - it was his entire argument for everything, basically that Jews were evil and to blame for all of the world's issues. He even had his own group about how Jews were ruining the planet. In a conversation I had with him, he essentially claimed that Catholic priests raping children wasn't a big deal - it was excusable - because they weren't Jews. So that is all I can see when someone uses MacDonald to try and rationalize their position: that any ills of mankind is excusable except for Jewishness. Ok, Christians aren't an ethnic group... they are more like a cult, going into their host countries and trying to convert everyone into their way of thinking or else they slaughter and enslave them. Christmas and Easter are just stolen Pagan holidays. Look at missionaries going to Africa to try and convert poverty-stricken nations, but make sure they know that condoms aren't allowed so AIDS can live on. How about US Christian missionaries going to Uganda and helping them create a "Kill The Gays" law? If we are talking about ethnicity, how about the typical Italian / Irish Catholic? Couldn't they be considered as having allegiance to a foreign power - The Vatican and The Pope - and therefore cannot be trusted in America? How about The Federalist Society, which helped groom and install the last several Republican appointed Supreme Court justices... which I have already said, 7 of 9 are Catholic. Seems to me they are trying to take over, even when they are only 20% of the US population. Let's not forget, as I previously stated, they raped children and covered it up... seems like they are protecting their own self interests, everyone else be damned. They also believe in literal cannibalism through the eucharist... talk about a blood libel. You want to talk about lobbying organizations? How about the Family Council, a fundamentalist Christian organization which influences US law. Did you know that a 3rd of federal public sexual education funding goes towards Christian "Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage" programs? This is taxpayer money, going to public schools with non-Christian students, enacting Christian dogma into their education. They teach factually inaccurate claims like "condoms cause cancer" and stress that abstinence is the only topic on the curriculum. Just last year, the Family Council helped defeat a bill in Arkansas which would have mandated for proper STI and pregnancy prevention requirements in sex-ed. Despite the Christian's absolute hate for abortion, and comprehensive sex-ed being proven to reduce ...

@Corjova yes, you can 100% apply the logic equally to all self-identifying groups. They typically all have shared commonalities, self-interest for their in-group, and goals to achieve. It is a typical anti-Semitic nonsensical talking point to claim that somehow Jews are unique or "different" in how they care about group interests - something I have seen echoed on this site primarily by those who openly celebrated Hitler and suggested I should be enslaved or killed because of my ethnicity. Please, do explain specifically how Christians aren't the same. Christians make their faith their primary purpose, trying to inject it into politics and heavily backing corrupt and quite un-Christian politicians (like Trump) in order to attain their goals of Christian-dominance in the Supreme Court to try and demolish abortion rights and allow for discrimination against people with different sexual orientation or gender identity. Where I live, a local politician running for Congress had lawn signs with "God" as the very first part of her platform, before Country, or Jobs, or Security - that is echoed by many Christians, who put their god and the Bible above the Constitution. Look at how Christians came out in support of slavery, because the Bible condoned it. Look at how Christians came out in support of anti-miscegenation laws, saying their religion was against race-mixing. Look at how Christians came out against marriage equality, with DOMA and the LDS church heavily campaigning against California's Prop 8. You don't see this as catering specifically to Christian in-group interests at the detriment to out-groups? Please. It's highly insulting, and quite laughable, to assume you know more than I do about my own though patterns. When I say "as a Jew" I am letting you know that I can speak to the whole "monolith" myth, and show you that not all Jews are the same. Especially when I am highly critical of Israel, and have no allegiance to them. As I always say, feel free to criticize Israel all you want, you'll receive no backlash from me, as long as you aren't denying their right to exist. Same with Judaism in practice - I am highly critical of the religion, as I am non-practicing. Go ahead and criticize the religion all you want, as long as you aren't suggesting they are subhuman or don't deserve the same freedoms as Christians. Saying "as a Jew" is no different than saying "as a woman" or "as a Christian" or "as an African-American" - it is acknowledging a part of yourself, whether that is ethnicity or heritage or religion, and giving your perspective based on how that part has shaped your life. As a non-Christian, I would prefer Christians to behave more like non-Christians. Alas, Christians tend to behave and act as Christians and are catering to their own perceived group interests, which they happen to interpret in strong ingroup-outgroup patterns. Every time a Christian claims to speak "as a Christian" I translate the claim into "as an enemy of non-Christians". As an atheist, I'd prefer theists to behave more like atheists. Ever time I hear someone say "as a proud god-fearing person..." or claiming to "put god above all else" I translate the claim to "as an enemy of atheists". @parsifal you mean when the GOP legislatures finally let people start counting the mail-ins?

You mean Trump lackey Trey Trainor? Whose role in the FEC is to regulate campaign finance rules and not weigh in on voting? Who in September called the separation of church and state a "fallacy" and claimed we were in a "spiritual war" and that Catholic Churches should violate federal law to endorse...
JacksonNought replies on Nov 14, 2020:
@parsifal can you name one Democrat who meets yours? I voted for W in 2000. There is no evidence to suggest Biden would be going to jail. I can't see them the same for your hero Trump. There's also no evidence that Biden is senile or on his last legs... I think he can easily walk down a ramp.

@parsifal when did I ever say that? I just think very little of Trainor. And Lightman. You're also free to leave the country if you don't want Biden as your president.

@parsifal so you are perfectly okay with Trump and his packed SCOTUS just handing him the election in an authoritarian move?

@Admin I disagree with the idea of a “bias” against immigration from “primarily Muslim countries”. The idea of a Trump “Muslim ban” is a hoax that has been continually repeated by the news media. Yes, Trump did restrict travel from Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen, ...

Trump himself called it a "Muslim ban" - take it up with him.

JacksonNought replies on Nov 12, 2020:
@A1fredo as an actual Satanist, I think I have more authority to speak on it than you. Yes, there are different sects of Satanism, but the mainstream non-theistic ones are the Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple. Both are equally as valid, though TST is actually recognized in the US and has tax-exempt status. It is not a fraud, and there is not *one* single authority. Ok so you are talking about fetishes. So if a bunch of pedophiles and murderers start cosplaying as Christians, we should just refer to it as Christian take I and murder every time we discuss it? It's also very religiously discriminatory to perpetuate the myth that Satanism involves pedophilia and murder. The Catholic Church has been involved in the largest child abuse scandal, and actually believes in literal cannibalism - the whole "pedophile cannibal murder" trope is inherently Catholic, not Satanic. So maybe in part of your request to comment in TimCast you should help remove that discriminatory bogeyman trope?

@A1fredo the info isn't "from Netflix" but rather a documentary there called *Hail Satan?* which happens to be hosted on the platform. It follows The Satanic Temple (of which I am a member) and is an authentic source of information. If you are just talking about weird fetishism edge-lords, please don't use the term Satanism - it blames us for despicable crimes.

@Lightman have I said Trump ruined America. Please point out where and when. It's possible, but I'd like you to show me. I have admitted to being a Progressive, sure. That is all. You are the one engaging in strawmen, conjecture, and false narratives.

@tracycoyle thank you for your answer. You make good points, and I respect your opinion on the matter. I don't really think Trump or Hillary had what it took to fix any of those issues, especially since I put a lot of the blame on Congress (a lot on McConnell). As for what was good, with Obama I saw the passing of the ACA as a good step in the right direction, albeit flawed with a rough start. Passing marriage equality was huge, as was ending Don't Ask Don't Tell. Bin Laden was brought to justice. Terrible post-9/11 torture practices were ended. EPA and FDA regulations were working towards combating climate change and increasing health standards (though also flawed). Stem-cell research was expanded, and abortion rights were protected. We had a bad recession, but it was in a strong upturn towards recovery. I saw marijuana legalization as a good thing. I think there was a lot of progress made in the way of sexual orientation and gender identity rights. Not all of this was reversed or ruined under Trump. Marriage equality is still legal, though with Thomas and Alito recently opining that *Obergefell v. Hodges* should be overturned, and the recent appointment of Barrett, it could potentially be at risk. I don't necessarily think Trump ruined America, but he did bring a lot of hate and division out of the woodwork, and in my honest opinion he doesn't care about America or its people - just lining his pockets. @Lightman, since when is *asking a question* building a strawman? In fact, it's quite the opposite, since I am trying to see what people think rather than telling them what they think. Did I vote here? Did I say Trump ruined America here? No. But you clearly made this post because of me, I was in your head just that much.
