If you think you’re saving the environment by driving a Tesla, well, let me let you in on a bit of a secret: You could perhaps emit less carbon if you went with a diesel car. The findings of a new study by a group of German scientists seem counterintuitive at first. They found that electric vehicles in their home country accounted for more emissions than those smoggy diesels. Until, that is, you realize that “zero emissions” vehicles aren’t really so zero emissions. “When CO2 emissions linked to the production of batteries and the German energy mix — in which coal still plays an important role — are taken into consideration, electric vehicles emit 11% to 28% more than their diesel counterparts, according to the study, presented on Wednesday at the Ifo Institute in Munich,” the Brussels Times reported. “Mining and processing the lithium, cobalt and manganese used for batteries consume a great deal of energy,” the report said. “A Tesla Model 3 battery, for example, represents between 11 and 15 tonnes of CO2. “Given a lifetime of 10 years and an annual travel distance of 15,000 kilometres, this translates into 73 to 98 grams of CO2 per kilometre, scientists Christoph Buchal, Hans-Dieter Karl and Hans-Werner Sinn noted in their study.” When you factor in the energy needed to charge the batteries, this ups that total to 156 to 180 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The study’s authors recommended that instead of pushing for the adoption of “zero emission” electric cars, European officials should instead move toward other sources of power for automobiles — namely methane, “whose emissions are one-third less than those of diesel motors.” This, by the way, is hardly the only study that’s questioned whether electric cars are really as environmentally friendly as their proponents claim. A 2017 study by researchers at the University of Michigan found that the amount of CO2 emitted by electric cars varied wildly by country, but it certainly wasn’t zero. “The report — authored by Michael Sivak and Brandon Schoettle — notes that an electric car recharged by a coal-fired plant produces as much CO2 as a gasoline-powered car that gets 29 miles per gallon,” Investors Business Daily reported. “(For context, the average mpg of all the cars, SUVs, vans and light trucks sold in the U.S. over the past year is 25.2 mpg.) A plug-in recharged by a natural gas-powered plant is like driving a car that gets 58 miles per gallon. “Solar, wind and geothermal do far better on this score, but they generate a small portion of the nation’s electricity. More than 64% of electricity is generated by coal, natural gas or other fossil fuels. “The U of M researchers calculate that, given the energy mix in ...
PJMedia: VDH: Are Universities Doomed? [pjmedia.com]
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 23, 2022:
In 1980, the Bayh-Dole act was passed that allowed government subsidies of colleges and universities. Those politicians motivated by power couldn’t resist the temptation to attach strings. Politicians seeking power are those who feel the Constitution unreasonably limits government power; politicians like Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, Reid… The Constitution and the Tenth Amendment provides only for the military and control of Interstate Commerce by the Federal government. Everything else is the purview of the people or the States, so Bay-Dole was un-Constitutional, but the “activist” Supreme Court acted outside of its Constitutional mandate and did not hear it. Clearly the Founders anticipated unprincipled politicians monkeying with the rights of the people, so they made such things illegal. Contact your reps now to repeal the Bayh-Dole Act if you really think restoring universities to academic integrity is important.

Unarmed “Protestors” will not win against a massive armed police force, unless the authorities allow it. It is a gambit of some kind. Remember, the CCP grants or removes rights at its whim, including ESG. By comparison, the US Constitution begins by asserting that US Citizens have those rights already, so they can’t be granted nor taken away from the people by our government. Republicans pledge to defend that concept, the Republican Party was founded by Lincoln in 1854 specifically to defend the Constitution. Democrats, who claim they are for individual rights prove the opposite by claiming we have no right to defend our homes, our speech can be controlled by calling it “misinformation,” that we have no authority over our own bodies - from vaccinations, and that our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness does not exist. Because Democrats are actually more like the CCP, they need to slander Republicans and make the public believe Republicans did and do everything Democrats are doing, or Democrats would face the wrath of the people. The dumber half of the country are buying that. But Dems know their lies won’t hold up forever so they have to steal elections to stay in power. Get it?

RT - Japan set to return to nuclear energy: [rt.
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 23, 2022:
Nuclear technology still has one critical flaw: Nuclear waste. Anyone with a fission reactor must be trusted for thousands of years to responsibly control and maintain extremely dangerous nuclear wastes. There are no vessels which can contain it for even a hundred years. How do I know? I worked as a nuclear engineer for part of my career. Am I completely confident that we will responsibly handle it for the duration? Not really. So how do we enforce some agency in some government to keep footing that bill to repackage that waste hundreds of times before it cools down enough to be safe? How many human error events will happen on that endless path? Many. And some will be deadly. The Soviets just walked away from their nuclear wastes, and left it for Russia to allocate funds and manage cleanup and storage. Did they take care of all of it? Did they do it responsibly? No one is completely sure, and we need to be. Does anyone know the true cost of nuclear power in Russia including the cleanup and management of current and future nuclear waste? That remains not completely certain. How many countries now with fission reactors can be counted on to responsibly manage that??? I do not have a warm fuzzy feeling that they all will. Given the current government in the US, utterly blinded to the urgency of anything but power and control, will we?

The reason fusion has not yet been safely possible in 75 years is that its either a bomb that is completely uncontrollable, or it is created by a simulation of the conditions that happen when a bomb goes off - which requires a massive amount of energy from another source, if it isn't coming from the fusion explosion itself. So the real danger is a massive explosion, not a meltdown. Failing to admit that is dishonest. Remember, politicians attempting to assert authority over science created Chernobyl. Furthermore, I question any source that blindly assumes asserting that not producing CO2 is a good thing, as the World levels of atmospheric CO2 move lower than they have been in the history of the World, and potentially threatens the loss of all plant life, which feeds us and provides the Oxygen that we breathe. Q Fusion is meaningless. Q Total is the excess energy produced. Claiming a "breakthrough" without proof of Q Total is ridiculous. Zeihan claims transmission is an issue. Ridiculous. The reason its called a distributed network NOW is because it takes thousands of megawatts generated at large power stations and divides it up successfully in conventional switchgear to distribute power easily across high voltage, low amperage lines, requiring no unusual conductivity. Would larger switchgear be needed? Doubtful. If power were generated from heat taken off at multiple points, which would be logical, it would be no different than conventional large power stations, no matter how many times it was scaled up. The thing is, there are no elements or compounds on Earth that can contain “temperatures greater than the sun.” THAT’s the problem. Not transmission. How do I know? I am a BSME who worked in the power industry - including nuclear in my career. Given the record of the Biden Administration for ignorance and utter blindness to consequence, I would not rule them out setting back any possible fusion progress for hundreds of years, if they are actually dumb enough to drive the attempt. Never trust Labor - they're LIARS.
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 15, 2022:
When there is no Constitution that recognizes inherent rights of the people, not government given rights, so there is no party founded in its defense, and any other party can only be motivated by power. Labor and Conservatives. They could trade places and there would be no functional difference. In the US, Republicans were founded to defend the Constitution, which asserts that the people have rights endowed by God, not the government. That only leaves the other party in the US, the "Democrats," which does not. Democrats can only be motivated by power, and that does not look very good to the public by comparison, so the very survival of the Democrat party depends on successfully slandering the Republican party, and that is what they have done since the founding of the Republican party in 1854. Outside of the US, with only precedent law and no Constitution asserting rights endowed by God, both parties slander each other, and both are motivated by power.

Hitler did the same, but no one paid attention until the deaths started to add up to tens of thousands. By that time, the only way to stop Hitler was massive mobilization, a trillion dollars*, and millions more lives lost. * In today's dollars, over 100 trillion dollars.
That only leaves the other party, the "Democrats," which is not. Democrats can only be motivated by power, and that does not look very good to the public by comparison, so the very survival of the Democrat party depends on successfully slandering the Republican party, and that is what they have done since the founding of the Republican party in 1854. With only precedent law and no Constitution asserting rights endowed by God, both parties slander each other, and both are motivated by power.

TimTuolomne comments on Dec 15, 2022:
Lead-acid batteries are already 75% efficient. No battery will ever get to 100%. No device ever has, and most don’t get to 75%. Lithium-ion batteries are only a few percent better, at the expense of your safety. The best anyone should expect under the immutable laws of physics, might be an 80 or 85% efficiency battery. That’s an improvement of not even 10% at best. Good investment? I doubt it. Will electric cars ever get much past 200 miles without a full re-charge? I doubt it. For those who believe political correctness can overcome physics, please do invest. I’ll be investing in things that actually make money.

Keep yourself terrified, and you’ll be doing the heavy lifting for the re-social engineering of our country. There was no pandemic. Easy to prove. Just look up the deaths from all causes in the US in 2018, 2019, 2020. Then notice a rise in “unexplained” deaths in 2021 and 2022, when COVID no longer “active.” There was only one variable having changed: the vaccine. The Jewish faith is the root of the tree of faith in God. Israel was disobedient, and called for its faithful to rely on works, not on the Salvation of Christ. The Christian faith is the new branch on the tree. When Israel eventually comes back to embracing the Sacrifice, as it will, we will again be one faith family, and they will be the honored elders.
I notice that a number of libertarians on Facebook are discussing the Duopoly (two party system).
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 14, 2022:
Firstly I can't help but wonder what kind of Libertarian will post on a Marxist site. I am a Constitutionalist, and I will not. Secondly, anyone who can't tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats is utterly ignorant of history, and what makes them completely different. The dupes of Marxists and their sympathizers want everyone to believe Republicans are responsible for everything Democrats do. If they don't slander Republicans and the public figures out who Democrats are - which a search of their history alone will reveal, the Dems would be toast overnight. Anyone who falls for the Dems mischief is not very bright. Finally, Marxists and Libertarians have in common the impulse to abandon the Constitution. Strange bedfellows. Their philosophies are actually completely opposite, except in their false belief in the slander of Republicans. But if Libertarians knew their history, they would know that Libertarianism was tried before the Constitution, and it failed, causing anarchy and the loss of the protection of the rights of citizens.

I have noticed for many decades that Motor Trend publishes favorable revues for questionable vehicles that are their biggest advertisers. When I want to know advantages of a vehicle and its accurate maintenance record, I go to Consumer Reports. And I wouldn't own any EV even if someone gave me one. The materials for them are environmental disasters, the best EV's equivalent MPG are about 34, there are fossil fuel vehicles that produce about half the carbon as the best EVs, and their costs are ridiculous. You have to be ignorant to own one. Finally, having owned many makes of vehicles and doing my own maintenance on all of them, I can assert that I will NEVER own a Ford, ever again. Some GM, RAM and Mitsubishi models are exceptionally good. Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, Lexus, Audi, BMW cost more to buy and run than they are worth.

There was no need for a Federal law like that and the American Public knows it. Inflation Eases The ([news.
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 14, 2022:
The only reason inflation is not progressing yet according to the amount of money printed without value, is simply that the supply chain has not yet recovered from the lockdown, and employment numbers are now measured in such a way as to appear high. But the truth is more likely that businesses lacking much activity are not yet hiring at pre-lockdown levels. The proof of this suspicion will be when unemployment hits zero or negative numbers which are both impossible, and betray falsification of the data. Either that or they will again fudge the way they measure employment. Look for that.
Fusion Breakthrough Achieved US scientists revealed yesterday experiments at Lawrence Livermore ...
TimTuolomne comments on Dec 14, 2022:
Another non-event article written by a questionable source. Article states that there is no risk of meltdown, as if that is the only risk. The reason fusion has not yet worked for 75 years is that its either a bomb that is completely uncontrollable, or it is created by a simulation of the conditions that happen when a bomb goes off - which requires a massive amount of energy from another source, if it isn't coming from the fusion explosion itself. So the real danger is a massive explosion, not a meltdown. Downplaying that is dishonest. (And I would not buy land within 100 miles of Lawrence Livermore, or a thousand miles downwind.) The article immediately discredits itself as scientifically invalid by asserting that not producing CO2 is a good thing, as the World levels of atmospheric CO2 move lower than they have been in the history of the World, and potentially threatens the loss of all plant life, which feeds us and provides the Oxygen that we breathe. The authors admit that they can't publish the value of Q yet, although they claim its about like a stick of dynamite. Q is the excess energy supposedly produced. Claiming a "breakthrough" without proof is ridiculous. This has all the hallmarks of several prior claims of successful fusion power production, which proved to be false, and places it in the bad company of "Cold Fusion," the debacle of respected scientists claiming to have produced fusion without heat, and being utterly discredited. And it has the hallmarks of a political boondoggle of massive funds with no accountability.

TimTuolomne comments on Dec 14, 2022:
Many politicians and Democrats in the US may never know or admit that there was no pandemic. COVID reporting was cr*p in the US because hospitals were paid to inflate the numbers. The death rate in 2020 remained about 2.5 million for all causes - including COVID-19; within the expected range from prior years. The flu cases reported in 2020 almost disappeared. Why? Because they were reported as COVID. After the truth started to leak out, we learned three things: 1. COVID-19 killed fewer healthy people than the annual flu. Should we be calling the annual flu a pandemic? 2. COVID-19 was only slightly more effective at killing those with co-morbidities than the flu and colds. Almost all of them who died in 2020, were probably going to die in 2020 whether or not there was COVID-19. 3. Current death rates ARE actually elevated, and they are NOT COVID-19 either. The only other event that can possibly explain that is the experimental vaccine.
